From the Year 2 Classroom

Week 5 and it's been a busy couple of weeks with more to come! The Year 2's have been working so hard, in all aspects and know they are preparing well and truly for Year 3!
It has been tricky knowing what to wear with all the weather changes, so please remember to clearly label all clothing as there is a lot of jumpers and hats in lost property tubs around the school.
In Literacy we are revising all of our spelling learning we have done over the year. This includes many digraph rules and tricky words. We have begun and are enjoying our class novel 'The 27th Annual Hippopotamus Race'. We are using our reading skills such as predicting, asking questions, inferring and summarising to help us understand the text. The children are lucky enough to have their own copy of this book to help track what they are reading and learn the skills of reading harder texts, ready for Year 3. We are about to finish our poetry topic and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it. They have created so many poems and will publish these in their own poetry anthology book.
In Maths the focus is graphing. Children will learn how to interpret graphs as well as creating their own. They will ask questions to their classmates about what their favourite things are to gather the information and create different charts with this information. This is always a fun topic in Maths.
The students are enjoying the science experiments in inquiry that focusses on states of matter. This week will be the last rotation of experiments before the children will collate all their learning into their own PowerPoints.
On Friday for art the children created their own Halloween biscuits. We are not sure if you got to see any of these in person as they probably were gobbled up very quickly before they got home. There are some pictures below.
Last Wednesday the children also got to participate in Bravehearts, where they discussed lots of safety aspects, warning signs in their bodies and how to tell someone 'no' when they feel uncomfortable. They always love meeting Ditto and listening to the important information around being and feeling safe. The children were given a small activity book, so you may have seen this at home. This incursion worked in well with the 'Day for Dainiel' on Friday. There was a sea of Red, which showed a great awareness of child safety.
