Teaching and Learning in Practice

Foundation Writing in Action
Throughout the year, Foundation students have been working on building their sentence writing skills. In Term 2, we started writing a weekend recount each week. These recounts were heavily structured, and the students were given a lot of support to generate their ideas and put them into a sentence.
As the year has progressed, the students have worked on generating and writing multiple sentences. The progress that students have shown has been amazing. From Term 2, students were copying the sentence they generated orally to now independently writing 3 sentences, using their phonics knowledge to sound out words as well! It has been amazing to witness this growth!

Year 1/2 Students Learn the Power of Persuasiveness
In the Year 1/2 classrooms, students are arguing! That is, they are arguing their point of view. The students are trying to influence others, argue points of view and communicate thoughts by learning how to write persuasively. Writing persuasively teaches students about structured argumentation and promotes confident, straightforward communication. This skill is not only beneficial when doing school work, but it also helps students develop critical thinking, empathy, and self-expression abilities.
