Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer
We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.
It is through their vision, determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.
We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

Crazy Sock Day 2025
Last Friday the whole school wore crazy socks to raise awareness for Catholic Mission. Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international Mission agency in Australia. An international organisation that partners with communities, helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education, and spiritual care.
Sockball!
The Grade 1/2s made a class soccer ball each from recycled materials including old t-shirts, materials, socks, plastic bags, bubble wrap and scrap paper. Making the ball round was a challenge as was finding any plastic bags to use to make the ball. The Grade 2s took their ball out at lunch time but it soon fell apart. By trying to make our own soccer ball we hope students will have a greater appreciation of all that we have.
Socktober
Did you know that Socktober is not about socks?
The iconic symbol of Socktober is a tattered, recycled ball made of socks, t-shirts, and plastic bags tied with string, representing the essence of the event.
Decades ago, a young boy named Jorge Mario Bergoglio played with a similar ball on the streets of Buenos Aires. He later became Pope Francis, but he always cherished sport and had a special connection with children from impoverished communities through this shared experience.
This year we did not aski our families for gold coin donations due to the Colour Run but we did ask everyone to wear socks on Friday for a bit of fun and to raise awareness of the Catholic Missions and in particular Zambia.

“Along the Track” article.
The latest edition of “Along the Track” entitled “Serman on the Mount” is attached to today’s newsletter.
Jesus’ mission was not to make us angels or superhuman. True, we are all called to holiness, wholeness. As Jesus put it, I have come so that you may have life to the full. He gave us an indication of what that might look like at various times, not the least of them in what we have come to know as The Sermon on the Mount. Life to the full isn’t just about life after death but in the here and now. It is not about health, fitness and diet, however important they may be. It is also about finding happiness, purpose, direction, something or someone to commit to.
Kind regards,
Ann-Margaret Carroll
