Over the last two weeks the 5/6 community have been learning about statistics and probability. Our students engaged in a skittle experiment where they had to pull out a skittle from a paper bag, 100 times. They then needed to record their results into a tally chart, which was then displayed in both a comparative bar graph and pie chart. This was a great opportunity not only for students to practise recording data, but also linked with our work on fractions, decimals and percentages.

In reading this term, we have continued to analyse a variety of texts. Over the last two weeks, we have focused on the non-fiction text Aliens from Earth, which has helped us learn about how animals have been introduced into different countries and the impact this has had on the environment. We have discovered that this text is written using a cause-and-effect structure, and we have been working hard to identify the causes and the resulting effects throughout the text.

The 5/6 community has begun planning and composing for The Great Debate! Students are working in small groups to write a persuasive paragraph either for or against a specific topic. Some of the interesting topics they will be debating include “Robots make better workers,” “Zoos should be banned,” “AI makes learning easier,” and many more. We are so proud of how well they are collaborating and working as a team to create the most persuasive arguments.
Next week, we will be visiting the Hume Central Secondary School library to begin our formal debates. Students will be standing on stage, behind the lectern, confidently presenting their arguments to the audience and guest judges. We wish all our Grade 5/6 students the best of luck!
Our Grade 5/6 students have been busy applying their Business and Economics learning as they prepare for the upcoming school fete. As part of their unit on financial decision-making, students have been carefully costing the materials for the products they are creating, comparing expenses, and calculating the most effective pricing strategies to ensure a profit. This hands-on experience has helped them understand the real-world responsibilities of budgeting, production, and sales. The excitement is building as students refine their products and prepare to showcase their hard work on fete day—an excellent opportunity for them to put their entrepreneurial skills into action!
We were thrilled to welcome Melbourne Victory star Marco Rojas to our school this week as part of our soccer clinic. The excitement across the yard was unmistakable as students had the unique opportunity to learn from a professional player. Marco shared valuable tips, demonstrated skills, and encouraged students to stay active and persistent in their training. Our students were inspired by his energy and enthusiasm, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
