Hands On Heads Literacy Coaching

Dear Principals,
Hoping all is well for this point in the final term of the year.
PETAA Writing Takeaways for Teachers and Leaders
Two weeks ago, I was on the sunny and warm Gold Coast for the PETAA PETAA (Primary English Teaching Association Australia) Conference.
I didn't only attend the conference, but I presented- 'Purposefully and Effectively Embedding Mentor Texts'. I shared with educators how to use mentor texts to highlight the reciprocal connection between reading and writing. We also identified key areas for explicit instruction based on evidence models and frameworks- such as language features, sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary- through practical examples of analysing and teaching with mentor texts. I shared how someone once told me, 'Reading is breathing in, and writing is breathing out' when highlighting the reciprocal relationship between reading & writing.
