🍡 Sweet Success! Year 9 Students Master Tanghulu in Mandarin Class
The Year 9 Mandarin class finished the term with a delicious cultural activity: making Tanghulu (糖葫芦), the traditional Chinese candied fruit skewer!
Students put their learning into practice by creating this popular Northern Chinese snack, dipping fruits like strawberries and grapes in a glossy, hardened sugar syrup.
It was a fun, hands-on session that connected them with Chinese culture, resulting in a sweet and crunchy reward for a term of hard work.”

✍️ Character Challenge! Year 7-9 Students Shine in Hanzi Writing Competition
Our Year 7-9 students put their pen skills to the test in the Chinese Hanzi Writing Competition, held during Term 4! The competition challenged students to demonstrate their mastery of Hanzi (Chinese characters) by accurately reproducing passages relevant to their current term topics. This task requires careful attention to detail, precision, correct stroke order, and legible character formation.

This year has been a busy one in Hands on Learning and Semester 2 was no exception! After working on the Production Sets for months we finally get to see them shine! The work that goes into designing, building and painting 3 huge set pieces is unbelievable! All of our Hands on Learning Students and Designer/Builder extraordinaire Mr White should be so proud of their Work! Our work in the wider community continued this semester with 10 Mini golf putting greens we built for Casey Fields Primary school along with and excursion to the primary school with our talented year 10 students to put them together with the very excited Primary school students.
Our community work also included Sensory boards and Abacuses for Willandra Rise Primary School and Cladding Shipping containers for CESC! After all this exceptional Community Involvement we were rewarded with some fun of our own in the form of a Go Kart!! We purchased the Go Kart in a kit form and it has been a fun and educational journey… The students have already replaced an axle, put in a new brake system and learned many driving skills along the way! This is just a few of the wonderful achievements in HOL this year! We look forward to a massive 2026 filled with lots of awesome projects, continued Community Involvement and constructing an underwater wonderland for the Little Mermaid!!

Art Therapy continues to be a calm and inclusive space where students are free to explore their creativity, try new mediums, express themselves though art and to learn how to regulate their emotions in a positive, creative and fun way! With the use of many different mediums and found object students are free to create sculptures, wall hangings, paintings, ink blending and the most delicious of all cupcake decorating… Its and opportunity to shift their focus from peer pressures, stress, anxiety or just to simply be creative! We look forward to expanding on our program in 2026 and are very excited for Sarah Bentley one of our fabulous Wellbeing Counsellors to facilitate Art Therapy, while Hannah is on leave, along with Catriona Noble our Art Therapist. Sarah has a passion for all things creative and she already has a fabulous rapport with our students! We look forward to a colourful, creative and calm 2026!
