Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships

In 1/2 PH this term we have been learning about 'Personal Strengths' in Respectful Relationships.

This week we used strength cards to identify personal strengths that we display well and ones we would like to improve on.

"I want to get better at helping people in the playground, even when I don't know them" - Billie

"I want to get better at being honest at home" - Zac

Students then worked in small groups to role play situations at home, in the classroom and in the playground where they could display different personal strengths. Some of the scenarios included helping someone that has hurt themself, being clever in the classroom by spelling a new word, being kind to siblings at home, and sharing toys. Afterwards, we discussed the importance of learning about personal strengths and being aware of our own strengths.

"It is important to learn because it helps you know how to get along with other people.""It helps us learn how to have good friendships".

“We can feel proud of our strengths".

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC week will be observed at SGPS during the first week of Term 3.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

The 2024 theme for NAIDOC week is: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud -

This year's theme celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

We now have 15 students who have completed the Premiers Reading Challenge.

Over the last 2 weeks we have had lots of readers begin to add the books they are reading at school to their profiles. As of today, we have read a combined 1150 books so far!

Keep up the great reading everyone.
