Religious Education
During Religious Education throughout Term 3, students will explore their connection with God as a believer. In addition, they will reflect on their understanding of faith traditions and the impact of God in their lives and the lives of others. We are also excited to be celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation which will take place later in the term. We will learn the meaning of Confirmation, the structure of the Mass and what it means to be a spirit filled person in our lives today.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry unit this term is centred around the exploration of digital technology. Students will analyse how technology is used in different jobs and industries. An emphasis will be placed on the way technology has changed over the course of time. We thought it would be fun to connect our unit of the Olympic Games, thus, students will be designing their own technology which could be used positively to impact sport.
Literacy
In Literacy, students will continue to unpack mentor texts to support their learning. As a class, we will analyse how these texts use a range of features such as language features, images and vocabulary to represent ideas, characters and events.
Students will also take part in Literature Circles where they will be given a book to read as a group and respond to the text in a variety of ways deepening their comprehension skills in literal and inferential meaning as well as learning to go beyond the text and analyse texts, as well as make connections with the themes and messages in the text.
Mathematics
In Maths, students will be learning about Time, where they will practise reading time tables, planning a journey and converting 12-hour time into 24-hour time and vice versa. We will also be delving into measurement topics such as perimeter, area, volume and capacity. As always, we will continue developing our knowledge of the four operations to cement these important concepts. Each lesson will begin with a daily review of our previous activities to help students to remember these skills.
Homework Expectations
Homework is handed out on a Monday and due back on Friday. It is an expectation that children read 20 minutes each night, with 1-2 of these sessions completed reading aloud to a parent to practise their reading skills.
Students will be given a literacy and numeracy activity to complete. They will also have spelling words chosen by them, focusing on our weekly ‘root’ word. We recommend that students attempt to complete homework over the course of the week instead of doing it in one night. All homework instructions can be found on Google Classroom.
