Night of the Notables – Year 6

They say a picture tells a thousand words. Here are mine from last night. It was so inspiring to see the work that the students put in to their costumes, questions, monologues and artifacts of their chosen notables. The rooms were full of buzz and excitement. Thanks to the parents and carers for the amazing support of their children leading up to the event and last night. Thanks also to the Year 6 staff for teaching the many skills required for the children to excel.

Report Writing Day for Education Support Staff

While the teachers were busy writing reports, the Education Support staff engaged in a day of professional learning. We were privileged to have 2 Senior Occupational Therapists from KidLink educate us on Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) which in Australia is a relatively new profile that is linked to neurodiverse people. There were so many ‘takeaways’ that the team will be discussing and embedding in our practices in the coming months. In the afternoon we were treated to some learning on Somatic Therapy presented by Bianca (one of our ES staff). She did a great job educating us about the physiology of the body and how the Vagus nerve can be activated to help with regulation by doing such things as rocking and swaying. The last part of the day involved an ES staff member, Vanessa, from Somers Primary School sharing ‘a day in the life of an Integration Aide’ in another school. We were very interested in exploring more of what she communicated including ‘invisible fidget’s’.
