Visual Arts

It has been a fantastic start to the year, with all classes showing enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive approach to their learning in Visual Arts.
PREP
Our Prep students have been exploring the special theme of family in the Art room. Through this unit, they have been learning to express their ideas about the people who are important to them while developing foundational art skills. Students have been carefully developing their drawing and colouring skills, experimenting with different painting techniques, and blending colours to create new shades. It has been wonderful to see our Prep students strengthen their fine motor skills, grow in confidence, and proudly share their creative representations of their families.
Years 1/2
This term, our Year 1/2 students have been exploring the theme of community in Visual Arts. Students have been learning how to use the elements of art - line, shape, colour and space to draw and design buildings that represent familiar places within their local community. Using sketching pencils, textas, oil pastels and paint, they have experimented with different techniques to add detail, texture and vibrant colour to their work. As part of this unit, students are also contributing to a collaborative artwork that brings together their individual buildings to create a shared local community scene.
Years 3/4
This term, our Year 3/4 students are exploring Australian landscapes while developing their understanding of the principles of art, with a focus on balance and creating harmony within a composition. Students have been experimenting with food dye, acrylic paint, sketching pencils, and oil pastels to create layered and expressive artworks. They have also studied Australian abstract landscape artist Belynda Henry, exploring how she uses colour, shape and composition to represent the Australian environment. Inspired by her work, students are creating their own abstract landscapes, thoughtfully selecting colours and forms to capture the essence of the landscape.
Years 5/6
This term, our Year 5/6 students are exploring botanical art with a focus on the principle of variety. Using sketching pencils, chalk, soft pastels, paint and Posca pens, students are developing detailed compositions inspired by natural forms. They have been refining techniques such as outlining, adding dots and lines for texture, scraping back through wet paint to reveal layers, and exploring tone to create depth and contrast.
It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and attention to detail in their botanical artworks
