Religious Education - Holy Week

When Our Love Feels Tired – A Holy Week Prayer for Students.

Dear God,

Sometimes loving others can be hard. Sometimes we feel tired of being patient, sharing, forgiving, or helping.

During Holy Week we remember Jesus. He showed love in every moment— when He washed His friends’ feet, when He forgave others, and even when He carried the cross.

When our love feels tired, help us remember Jesus.

Help us to be kind at school, to include others in our games, to forgive when someone hurts us, and to choose love each day.

Fill our hearts with Your love so that we can shine Your kindness to others.

As we walk through Holy Week, help us to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.

Amen. ✨

The Importance of Scripture

The Parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 13:31–32) tells us that the Kingdom of God begins as something very small, yet grows into something great and life-giving. Jesus uses this simple image to remind us that even the smallest acts of faith, love, and kindness can grow and make a big difference in the world.

This message connects beautifully with Holy Week. During Holy Week, we journey with Jesus through moments that may seem small or even insignificant — sharing a meal with his friends, praying in the garden, and ultimately his suffering and death on the cross. At the time, these moments may not have seemed like signs of greatness. However, through the Resurrection at Easter, we see how God brings new life and hope from what seemed small and fragile.

How does this story connect with us now?

In our Religious Education lessons, we help students understand that just like the mustard seed, their small actions matter. A kind word, including someone in play, showing forgiveness, or helping others are all ways they can live out their faith each day. These small “seeds” of love reflect the message of Holy Week — that God’s love grows, transforms, and brings new life.

By exploring this connection, we support students to see that faith is not just something we learn about, but something we live through everyday actions, helping to build a more caring and hopeful community.

Throughout Holy Week our students will be leading prayer on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday at 2.35pm.
