Kindergarten Term 1

Welcome to Term 1 in Kindergarten! We are thrilled to begin the school year and welcome all our new students. This term is all about settling in, making new friends, and getting comfortable with classroom routines. We are looking forward to watching your children grow, learn, and have fun together.

In literacy, the children are focusing on recognising letters, learning sounds, and listening to stories. They are participating in daily activities to develop their reading and speaking skills, assisting to build their confidence with language and communication. In numeracy, we are learning about numbers up to 20, counting everyday objects, and recognising shapes and simple patterns. These activities are designed to introduce maths concepts in playful and engaging ways.

We encourage families to help learning continue at home by reading together, practising counting, and talking about your child’s school day. Your involvement makes a big difference in your child’s education.

LITERACY

This term, our Kindergarten students are focusing on developing foundational literacy skills. They are learning to recognise and name letters of the alphabet, associate letters with their sounds, and begin to understand how these sounds form words. Through engaging story time sessions, songs, and interactive activities, children are building their listening and speaking skills, which are essential for early reading and communication. We encourage parents to support this learning at home by reading with their child daily, talking about the stories, and playing simple letter and sound games. This shared time helps strengthen their confidence and enjoyment of reading.

"Reading aloud to your children is a gift that will last a lifetime."

NUMERACY

This term in mathematics, our Kindergarten students are exploring numbers and counting in fun, hands-on ways. Children are learning to recognise numbers up to 20, count objects, and sort items by size, shape, and colour. Through activities like counting games, puzzles, and using everyday classroom materials, students are developing a strong foundation for understanding early mathematics concepts. Families can support this learning at home by encouraging counting during daily routines (for example, counting steps, toys, or snacks), pointing out numbers in the environment, and talking about shapes or patterns you see together. These simple activities help build confidence and foster a positive attitude toward mathematics.

"The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics."
