The Valley Sporting Year Kicks Off
The new sports year is in full swing and it has been wonderful to see so many students getting involved in physical activity and representing our school with enthusiasm and pride.
Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to participate in a range of sporting events, carnivals and representative pathways. These experiences not only promote physical health and skill development, but also help students build teamwork, resilience and school spirit.
Thank you to the many families who continue to support school sport by ensuring students are prepared, encouraging participation and assisting with permission notes and communication when required. Your support helps make these opportunities possible for our students.
We look forward to an exciting year of sport and celebrating the achievements and efforts of our students along the way.
Swimming Carnival & Water Safety Day
We made a splash in the first week of school as students and teachers enjoyed a day in the water on a scorching 40-degree day. With the sun blazing, our swimmers showed great enthusiasm, determination and plenty of school spirit.
Students participated in a range of events throughout the day, cheering on their peers and giving their best effort in the pool. It was wonderful to see such positive participation and sportsmanship across all year groups.
Alongside the carnival, students also took part in Water Safety activities, developing important knowledge and skills to help keep themselves and others safe around water.
Thank you to our staff and families who helped make the day such a success. It was a fantastic way to start the sporting year!
Congratulations to Haidar, Kattya and Cecilia, who proudly represented Green Valley Public School at the Zone Swimming Carnival. A special congratulations to Haidar, who has progressed to Regionals in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and Backstroke. We wish him all the best as he represents GVPSSA at the next level.
NRL Clinic and Wests Tigers Blitz
Students in Years 3–6 recently participated in an exciting NRL Clinic, where they developed their rugby league skills through a range of fun drills and activities. The session encouraged teamwork, communication and active participation, with students showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout.
Our whole school also enjoyed the Wests Tigers Blitz, where players spoke to students about the importance of healthy habits, staying active and making positive choices. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear from professional athletes and be inspired to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
A big thank you to the NRL and Wests Tigers team for visiting our school and providing such an engaging experience for our students.
Premier's Sporting Challenge
Again this year, our school has registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical activity to lead a healthy lifestyle.
In term 2, students will be monitoring their physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch, as well as during sport lessons. Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. The aim is to work towards an average at least 60 minutes of activity a day for ten weeks. Each student in years 3-6 will be issued with a logbook to record their daily physical activity. Whilst K-2 students will work towards a Gold class award level.
We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together. Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience.
