2026
What a great start to the year we have had in our Health and Physical Education lessons! We have been hard at work learning how to play a variety of sports, as well as developing our skills in teamwork and strategy.
In the first half of the term, learners from the Stillwell and Holly units have been exploring sports such as tee-ball and baseball, learning about the importance of proper technique and strategy, such as throwing technique and fielder placement, for both individual players and as a whole team in order to experience success. We have also explored how and why games might be modified to accommodate people with different lived experiences and have tried student-led modifications of familiar games to see how games can be made accessible for everyone.
This year we have begun a new vocational program for our year 5/6 students called Leadership through Community and Sports. In this program, students who submitted applications to join are learning and honing valuable skills as leaders, such as effective communication, critical reflection, collaboration, and much more through a variety of experiences, both within sport and beyond. It will be a great pleasure to see how our young leaders approach and grow from challenges.
As we move forward into the second half of term 1, we will be exploring track and field events in preparation for the School Sport SA event to be held in week 10. Trials for the different events have been taking place with many of our students showcasing their Courage in trying out for a variety of events.
In Castle unit our learners have been learning how to use proper technique within skills such as throwing, catching and striking, and have been employing these in a variety of different sports, such as tee-ball and cricket. We have also been learning about the importance of fair play and safety, and how these enhance the fun of the games we play. As we move into the second half of the term, we will continue to explore striking based games, learning to transfer the skills we developed to a variety of different sports.
Thank you to all of our parents and caregivers for your continued support and encouragement towards our students’ sporting experiences. We can’t wait to experience continued success for the rest of the term and beyond as we try new and exciting things!
