Principal's Report

 - Tania Sorbello

Yet another great fortnight of learning has happened for the students of FNPS with the children deeply immersed in engaging learning tasks to build deep understanding and foster curiosity!

Our Year 1 – 6 learners have now completed their first International Baccalaureate inquiry, focusing on "Who We Are", and are transitioning to their new learning sequence, which will build on their understanding and create new and meaningful connections as they explore "How We Organise Ourselves".  Our Foundation students will continue on with their “Who We Are” learning until the end of term.

The culmination of this learning will be presented to families at our IB PYP Learning Showcase open afternoon on Wednesday 1st April 2026 from 3:00pm – 3:30pm

Harmony Day

“Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.”

This week is Harmony Week. As our learners celebrate and learn about inclusivity throughout this week, we will be holding a Harmony Day whole school parade this Friday, 20th March at 9:15am. Your child/ren are encouraged to dress in cultural dress or to wear orange to show their support for this wonderful celebration of belonging here at FNPS.

Divisional Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to our students who represented FNPS at Divisional Swimming last week! A big thank you to Ben, as well as our parents and carers, for their support. This Thursday, eight students will advance to the Regional level, and we wish them all the best in their events.

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy tests for students in Years 3 and 5 are now well underway, with our students having undertaken their Writing and Reading last week and Language Conventions and Spelling today. Tomorrow will see our learners undertake the final assessment, Numeracy. Any students who may have missed an assessment will have the opportunity to undertake a catch up session through until this Friday, 20 March.

Australian Education Union Industrial Action

Many families may have seen recent media coverage regarding industrial action being undertaken by members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) as we negotiate the development of the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA). As part of this statewide action, staff at our school may be participating in stop-work action on Tuesday 24 March. This may result in some disruption to the normal school program on that day. We will communicate further details closer to the date to ensure families have clear information about any arrangements that may be required. Thank you for your understanding.

The Joy and Benefit of Reading with your Child

Research indicates that reading to and with your child each day can have profound benefits on their academic, creative, personal and social development. Children who read for just 20 minutes per day are exposed to approximately 1.8 million words each year – strengthening their language and literacy skills, igniting their curiosity and building their love of literature and reading. (Nagy and Herman, 1987)

Keep on Reading

While many of us tend to stop reading to and with our children once they are able read independently, this is definitely the time to keep reading together. Reading together strengthens family bonds, fosters a love of books and reading and assists your child in continuing to develop a deep and rich vocabulary and understanding of texts.

The graphic below outlines some of the benefits of reading for just 20 minutes each day to and with your child.
