Wellbeing Report

Hello from the wellbeing team,
For those that might not be familiar with us we work around the school to support parents, students and their families in a variety of ways. We can help with mental health, wellbeing, school anxiety, supporting learning in the classrooms, advising of referral pathways for assessments or allied health support and many other things! We have an open door so please stop by the wellbeing office if you would like to chat or have any questions about supporting your child and family. If we don’t know the answer, we’ll do our best to find it for you.
As this term has progressed we have been so pleased to see the rollout of the ‘Zones of Regulation’ in the classrooms. The students are using the language well and beginning to identify their own strategies to get back to the green zone when needed. Students have come up with simple strategies for school such as going for a walk to get a drink of water, and writing about whatever is on their mind. We encourage you to ask your child/ren about this and to brainstorm strategies at home to get back to green in your home environment. For example, reading quietly, drawing or doing something physical such as running around the garden or playing outside.
Regularly asking your child how they’re doing to help them get used to talking about their feelings, and know there’s always someone there to listen is so valuable for developing emotional literacy. If they can discuss when things are good and verbalise this with language such as ‘I’m feeling happy because’ or ‘Today was a great day because…’, they will not only build resilience through noticing the positives, but they are more likely to feel able to discuss when things aren’t going so great also.
We’ll see you around the school!
Amy, Libby and Sally.
On Monday the 3rd of March, 23 Grade Six Student Leaders and 3 staff from Woori Yallock Primary School attended The National Young Leaders Day. Students were inspired by four Young Leaders: Catherine Laga’aia (Actor), Emma McKeon (Olympian), Thomas Duncan- Watt (Screenwriter/author) and Majak Daw (Footballer). Each speaker encouraged our students to step out of their comfort zones and inspired them to make an effort to reach their goals. Each speaker spoke of their individual struggles along their own journey to success and shared their stories about how and who helped them overcome the challenges. Between the speakers our Student Leaders were able to participate in a dance routine, have a few competitions and finish the event with a sing a long. All students showed respect and were very patient with the long journey home again on the delayed train. We hope our Student Leaders have now been inspired to lead their peers well in 2025 and have been encouraged to aim high and dream big into the future.
Breakfast Club
We have some new volunteers at Breakfast Club. If you would like your child to make use of our yummy breakfast foods, send them to school that bit earlier so they will have time to eat and enjoy their food. We currently toast six loaves of bread each breakfast club, which covers us until the music is playing for the start of the school day. Please remind your child that if they want to have something to eat before school that they need to head straight down to the German Room. While the music for the bell is playing there are only fruit cups and milk drinks available. With our new volunteers we hope to be able to provide more food options once they have settled in to our routine.
Food Pantry
The food pantry is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons between 2:30 and 3:30pm. Please note the pantry will close early on Monday’s. We have a range of foods, including gluten and lactose free items and on Wednesday’s we have fresh carrots and fruit, apples, pears and oranges. If you are in need of a pantry top up please stop by and pick something up.
