SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

It was wonderful to see our Student Run Council (SRC), led by Rhiannon Rawlins in Year 12, getting some momentum over the last couple of weeks. The SRC met to discuss what they would like to achieve and their first project, getting student voice on the new CrossFit stations. Following this members at each year level in the Middle School, ran year level assemblies to explain the new play equipment and the role of the SRC. They conducted a survey with over 260 responses in less than a week, asking for input on how far apart the stations should be installed.

They also asked for other ideas from students with a range of interesting and thoughtful responses from our students.

Rhiannon then presented this data to the School Council meeting and has joined the Facilities Subcommittee. It's great to include student voices as part of the decision-making process in our school.

School Council held our AGM this week, and all positions on Council were filled. Having a vibrant and active school council is a vital part of an effective school. I thank all outgoing members for their contributions over the last two years and welcome our new members. I am excited to be working with such a dynamic group of students, parents, community members and staff. Our subcommittee positions were all filled, and will these groups will meet regularly throughout the year.

Our Japan camp heads off on Monday on an exciting overseas adventure. We have 6 staff and 37 students heading off to the land of the rising sun, and I am sure they will make memories that last a lifetime. I’d like to thank Bekk Anthony for her work in leading the camp, from the original idea through to reality. This will be Bekk’s last adventure with Korumburra Secondary College as she heads off to explore opportunities in another school. I speak on behalf of the community when I thank her for all her contributions and commitment to the Korumburra community over the last 13 years.
