In Our Classrooms

Year 6 Food Technology

Students in 6B, 6D, 6F and 6H have been thoroughly enjoying their learning in Food Technology. Students spent the first part of the term learning about the expectations in Food Tech, which include working clean, working safe, embracing happy failures, helping each other out, and knowing whose time it is to shine. Meeting these expectations not only helps us prepare delicious food, but can also help us in school and life more broadly. So far, students have made pizza, choc chip cookies, crumbed chicken, and milkshakes. Next term they will be designing their own canteen menu item from scratch, which should be a fun project for everyone. Optional home learning has included cooking at home, which some students have taken to with gusto. Hopefully, they have listened to their teacher and helped clean up afterwards!

Prep Curiosity Unit

As part of our Curiosity unit, our Preps have been learning about different types of relationships such as friends, family members and teachers. Students have represented the special people in their lives and their families.  These drawings can be found in the office foyer.

SPORTS UPDATE

Swim Team Update

On Thursday 6th March nine Hazel Glen College students that qualified at the first division swim meet, attended the Division Final at Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Our students represented the school with pride and performed exceptionally well, with five students qualifying for the Regional Final.

The Regional Final was on Thursday 20th March at Watermarc in Greensborough. Darcie, Taylah, Milana, Georgia and Daniel all demonstrated the four R’s and competed to the best of their abilities. They came away with medals for their efforts and narrowly missed qualifying for the State Final.

Congratulations to everyone in our swim team for their amazing efforts! Go Hazel Glen College!

Year 6 Interschool Sport

This term has provided our Year 6 students the opportunity to participate in the Interschool Sport Competition. Students play home and away games each Friday competing in teams with their peers and coached or umpired by school staff. We aim to have maximum participation in this program and have been pleased with the enthusiasm that our Year 6 cohort shows each week with great team work. More information about the ISS program for Term 2 will be available on Compass shortly. Students who prefer to not participate in the program have the opportunity to take part in an Alternative sport program at school.
