Student Voice

At The King's College, student voice is highly valued. The student leadership team meets regularly to discuss ideas and initiatives. Students are encouraged to share their feedback and suggestions with the College Captains, ensuring their voices help shape the school community.

Message from College Captain | Romi Andre

As we come to the end of the Term, I want to remind you that I’m always open to hearing your ideas. If you have thoughts on school events, ways to improve our community, or want to chat, come find me at break times—I’d love to hear from you!

Our Monday leadership meetings have been all about uplifting and strengthening our school culture, and I’ve already seen such a great shift. More students are looking out for each other, stepping up to help, and bringing positive energy to our school. It’s been so inspiring, and I know we can keep building on this together!

Harmony Day on 21 March was truly moving—it was incredible to see so many of you come together, share your cultures, and celebrate the diversity that makes our school so special. It was a powerful reminder that when we embrace each other’s differences, we grow stronger as a community.

As we continue through the year, I encourage you to step into our theme, "Courage."  Courage isn’t just about being fearless—it’s about standing up for what’s right, trying new things, and supporting those around you. Whether it’s speaking up, reaching out to a new friend, or taking on a challenge, every act of courage makes a difference. Let’s make this a year of bold, courageous action!

If you have ideas or want to be part of shaping our school culture, come chat with me—I’d love to hear from you!

Primary Buddy Program

This term, the primary school students have begun their 'Buddy Program', where the older students are paired up with the younger students. For our middle and upper primary students, it provides them with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and foster a sense of responsibility, while our younger students are given emotional and academic support, increased engagement, and a sense of belonging. Through fun activities and socialisation, our primary students develop empathy and socio-emotional intelligence while also promoting school spirit and culture!

Recently, 1B and 6B met their new buddies and completed a 'Getting to Know You' interview together. The Year 6 students shared their thoughts on working with their buddies:

Puok P. 6B |  “It’s great for the younger kids to have someone to look up to and for us to develop our leadership skills.”

Sophia Y. 6B | “As an older student, we get the chance to teach our younger buddies about things we’ve already learnt about.”

Shourya K. 6B |“Buddies is awesome because students get to learn about others, such as their hobbies and strengths.”

Sophie K. 6B | “After all of our years of primary school, it’s nice that we get to support the younger students with their own primary school journey!”

Global Leadership Summit

Article by Jake M. | House Captain - Carmichael

Being part of the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) was an incredible opportunity to step up as a leader and inspire the next generation. GLS allowed the Year 6 students to gain confidence and skills to lead with integrity, resilience, and purpose. This year, I led a segment on the 40-Hour Famine, sharing how small sacrifices can create a lasting impact.

Leading this segment was an unforgettable experience. The energy in the room was incredible—students were happy, laughing, excited, and eager to share their ideas. Some thought 40 hours without WiFi would be the biggest challenge, while others joked that 40 hours of homework would be even worse, which was definitely my favourite response!

We all worked great as a team, bouncing ideas off each other and building on our shared enthusiasm. Through this experience, I learned that leadership isn't just about having a plan; it's about hard work, trusting yourself and others, a bit of improvisation, and confidence. These were the things that got me through and made the session so successful.

One of the most memorable moments was seeing the Year 6 students having the chance to ask us Year 11s and 12s questions about high school. Watching them gain confidence and smile as they realise that high school isn't as scary as they thought was great! They learned it's a place where they can have fun, study hard for their passion, make friends, and create real change.

For me, GLS was a reminder that leadership starts with influence, not position. It's about taking initiative, stepping up when needed, and using your voice for good. For the Year 6s, it was a spark—an introduction to the idea that they, too, can lead in their own way.

Whether it's standing up for a cause, leading a team, or simply making a positive impact in their school, GLS set the foundation for them to believe in their potential - and that's what leadership is truly about!

Encounter Day | COURAGE

Article by Atidashe Z. | Christian Ministry Leader

Encounter Day is a special event held once per term. It begins with a whole-school Chapel service filled with praise, worship, and an encouraging message inspired by this year's theme: "Courage."

After the Chapel service, Year 11 and 12 students have the privilege of spending the day together, enjoying fellowship and hearing from various speakers from Youth Alive who shared the Word of God in different sessions.

This term's Encounter focused on apologetics - the defence of faith, and the courage to ask life's big questions. My personal highlight was witnessing people respond to the altar call. While not everyone went forward, seeing so many hungry for God and eager to experience His presence was truly inspiring. One of the most impactful moments for me was hearing from Ps. Quay, who spoke on the topic, "If God is so good, why does suffering exist?" His message changed my perspective on life's hardships. He referenced 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, emphasising that God's strength is perfected in our weakest moments. I also felt God moving in my own heart as I realised that defending the Gospel isn't just about winning arguments or having the right answers; it's about demonstrating love, which is the greatest defence.
