LIBRARY NEWS by Mrs Boxall
Greetings from the Library! A lot has happened since the start of 2025!
New Shelves, New Look: First and foremost, the non-fiction collection has now moved onto brand new shelves, put together by the wonderful Gary and Ron from Property Services; it’s much much easier to find resources on the topic of your choice now, and the new shelves look excellent. Mrs Boxall is still moving things around, so the space will keep changing appearance for a while. Remember, if you can’t find items on a topic, or you’re looking for that perfect book to read, just ask!
This was a huge project done in a very short space of time. Without students pitching in to move giant piles of books off the old shelves and then back onto the new ones, it would have been impossible. My very grateful thanks go to the following students who, unasked, volunteered theirtime and labour: Dom Cheles, Maddy McPherson, Anthony Armstrong, Shalom Mooney, Austin Kemp, Jasmine Tranh, and especially Noah Murrell & Farida Khosti. You are all excellent people!
Book Club: Carrying on from last year, the Book Club is meeting fortnightly in the Library, in IC5. This is a student-led club, though staff are very welcome (fortunately, just try and keep Mrs Boxall away, she dares you.) Any and all book lovers are welcome and all genres are up for discussion; our upcoming spin-the-wheel selection process guarantees fairness in our reading. Our current book is Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone, familiar to many and new to some, and we all have Opinions. If you want to work on your debating skills, this is the group for you- we are always polite, but always open to arguments!
As well as being an immense amount of fun, this group also aids in understanding of texts, and comprehension of themes, and all the other “boring but important” English comprehension skills.Come and better your English skills without realising that you’re doing it!
Bookmark Competition: Ms Imbert has teamed up with Mrs Boxall and we are holding a Bookmark Design Competition in Week 8! Tired of seeing the same old bookmarks in the library? Collected all that have already been offered? Possessed of artistic skills? Enter the competition and see if you have what it takes to design one of the new MCC Bookmarks!
Look for the posters which will soon be appearing around the school; the competition is designed around the themes of The Truck Cat, the storybook selected by the Australian Library and Information Association for this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime. We are looking for artwork around the themes of cats and humans in trucks, immigration and identity, homes lost and found, and silly cats chasing butterflies. The competition will be in the IC during lunchtimes from March 17-21 and prizes are on offer for the top 5.
Terrible Library Joke: I walked into the library and asked the librarian where the books on paranoia were. She leaned forward and whispered “They’re behind you!”See you in the library!
