Year 12 VCE Students Engage in Workshops for Success

Year 12 VCE students recently took part in a series of workshops designed to help them develop essential skills for their final year of school. The sessions focused on building effective study routines, maintaining healthy habits, practising mindfulness, and strengthening teamwork.

Students explored techniques for managing their time, reducing stress, and staying motivated. Mindfulness activities encouraged focus and resilience, while team-building exercises fostered a sense of support among peers - and saw the students share plenty of laughs!

 

The day wasn’t all hard work—students also enjoyed a well-earned pizza lunch, giving them the chance to relax and connect with friends. The workshops provided valuable tools for success, ensuring students are prepared both academically and mentally for the challenges ahead.

Access Monash mentoring program

On Wednesday 26 February 12 students across year 11 and 12 had the opportunity to meet with their mentors from Monash University to launch the program. Access Monash Is a 2 year program to increase University access and participation for talented students from  low socioeconomic backgrounds. Students from partner schools  across year 11 and 12 are invited to apply to be part of the program. Once accepted the students are paired with experienced and engaged Monash student mentors to work in a one on one mentoring relationship for the final two years of secondary school. Mentees will meet with their mentor for approximately eight sessions throughout the year to gain an insight into University life. Students also have the opportunity to shadow their mentor for a day at the University and attend faculty and expo events.

Staff Dominate Students in Swimming and Water Polo Competitions

In an exciting display of athleticism and school spirit, McClelland staff triumphed over their student counterparts in a series of aquatic competitions, proving that experience still holds the upper hand in the water.

The showdown began with the swimming relays, where two teacher teams competed against several student teams. Despite the students’ speed and determination, both teacher relay teams outpaced all student competitors, showcasing their endurance and teamwork.

 

The competition continued with a highly anticipated water polo match. The students came out strong, displaying impressive coordination and effort, but the teachers controlled the game with strategic plays and solid defence. In the end, the teacher team secured an 11-7 victory, sealing their dominance in the water.

 

While the students gave it their all, the staff emerged victorious, proving that wisdom, teamwork, and experience can outshine youth and energy—at least in the pool!

Students Triumph Over Staff in Pictionary Showdown

In a heated battle of quick thinking and artistic skill, students emerged victorious over their teachers in a thrilling Pictionary competition. With fast guesses and creative drawings (including that of Assistant Principal and host, Mr Hemsley), the students outpaced their teachers, securing a well-earned win.

 

The excitement didn’t stop there—students also dominated the bonus round, earning an extra point to add to the overall staff-versus-student tally. Their victory not only showcased their teamwork and sharp guessing skills but also gave them bragging rights over their teachers.

With the competition heating up, all eyes now turn to the next round: European Handball. Both teams will be looking to break the two-all deadlock and claim victory in the ongoing staff-versus-student rivalry!
