Fasting in Lent

Yesterday we gathered to celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass, to signify the beginning of Lent. Lent is a time of fasting, almsgiving and prayer. As we move through the season of Lent it is easy to think of the things we should stop doing or change in our lives to draw us closer to the Risen Christ of Easter. As we remember Pope Francis, who is unwell, in our prayers, we can also remember a different Lenten challenge that he offers us.
Pope Francis tells us to 'fast' in a different way. To 'fast' from the negative parts of life and celebrate the positive. In 2025 we are Pilgrims of Hope, celebrating the Jubilee. So as we journey the path of Lent we are preparing ourselves to meet and celebrate the Risen Jesus at Easter, to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. So take the opportunity to fill yourself with joys in life during Lent and 'fast' from those which take us away from a deeper relationship with God.
If you would like a copy of Pope Francis's prayer, they are available on the Foyer wall, please feel free to take one.
