Wellbeing Tip - Empathy

Helping your child develop empathy and compassion is one of the most valuable lessons a parent can teach their child. It’s not just about recognising emotions - it’s about understanding and acting with kindness.

Nurture empathy through everyday moments. Children learn empathy step by step, through experience and conversation. By guiding them to recognise emotions in others and imagine themselves in different situations, you help them build a deeper understanding of kindness and connection.

Try this:

Next time you're watching a movie or reading a book with your child, pause and ask, "How do you think that character feels?" and "What would you do to help?" These small moments encourage big emotional growth.

By modelling empathy yourself, you help shape a child who is not only aware of others' feelings but also motivated to make a difference.
