On Tuesday, 4 March the Year 11 VM students took part in an exciting excursion to Melbourne City with Marcelle Greto and myself. The students completed a scavenger hunt around the city, finding special and significant landmarks around the CBD. In Literacy and Personal Development Skills, the students are focusing on texts and locations that are important to people’s identity and self-expression. Throughout this excursion, they were able to see this for themselves and learn something about our city. This also encouraged our students to engage in using skills of teamwork, forward planning and resilience to become the champions of the hunt. The students were excellent representations of the Norwood Community in the city and should be exceptionally proud of their efforts in participating in the day.
The Year 12 VM class recently visited Mullum Primary School for their first major Personal Development Skills assessment. They planned and ran a fun sports session for 75 grade 3/4 students, practicing on their peers beforehand. The event was a success, with the primary school students enjoying the activities, and Mullum Primary even asked the Year 12 students to return. This excursion helped the students develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
The afternoon was good because it taught us how to teach and interact with younger kids – Josh
We found that the kids really enjoyed the games and had a lot of fun – Nathan
I enjoyed how enthusiastic and involved they were in my group. We did octopus and chicken run. The kids liked both games especially chicken run. They found it fun competing against each other. I loved to see how happy they were to come and socialise with us and learn our game. – Willow
Some kids were challenging to control but we eventually got there and seeing them laughing and having fun was all worth it – Lara
