First Aid Training at St John's

First Aid Reflection by Cain

In the First Aid Training program at school we did the D.R.S.A.B.C.D which is an acronym for the steps we follow when something has happened. We learnt to always be safe when helping others, looking after ourselves and the person who may be unconscious, so that they can be safe as well. When something happens like this we need to follow the Drs ABCD in order for a reason so we can keep the patient alive. The reason we follow these steps in order is because if we do CPR before danger then we’re skipping a lot of steps, and also we could get hurt.

The  D.R.S.A.B.C.D stands for Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation and you must do it in that order. We learnt how to position the person in the recovery position, check their airways and any injuries. Hopefully we don’t ever have to do this, but we’re ready just in case we do.

Lilah - I really liked how it taught us how to save a life and to resuscitate people.

Margaux - I liked how it prepared us for situations where someone would need assistance as I would be scared to help if I wasn't prepared.

Lucas - It taught us how to save lives and if there is any danger then you need to also protect yourself.

Harry - It was good because it prepared us for situations when anyone hurts themselves by slipping over or becoming unconscious.  It helps us to know how to help

Lunchtime Clubs

KNITTING CLUB

We are so lucky to have a staff who want to share their gifts and talents with the students at our school. Many of them do this during their break times. Kim our learning support officer is passionate about craft and knitting. Every Tuesday at lunchtime she teaches the students the skills of knitting. She has an enthusiastic group who join her every week and they patiently work together to develop their skills. We cant wait to see their finished knitted pieces.

LIBRARY CLUB

Every Tuesday lunchtime our library is open for students to come in and read, browse and share their favourite books. Maria is always on hand ready to help. We ensure that our library is stocked with the latest literature, both fiction and non-fiction and a variety of books to inspire and engage every student.

GAMES CLUB

The best part about Games Club is seeing the older and younger students playing together, problem solving and supporting each other. Every Tuesday, during the second break, Mrs Hendy runs the Games Club for all students. This includes chess, board games and construction tasks.

Music Lessons at St John's

Every Tuesday Anthony from Merchant Music Academy, works at our school to teach the students instrumental lessons. He specialises in teaching a variety of instruments, providing a fun, motivating and inspiring environment for our students so that they can reach their musical goals in no time at all.
