Our Year 10 PASS students recently completed an enriching Outdoor Education Camp at Gunbower Estate, applying their classroom learning in a real-world environment through canoeing, hiking, campcraft, nutrition planning, leadership challenges and teamwork activities.

Experiences such as these help students develop resilience, problem-solving skills, collaboration and confidence while strengthening their understanding of key concepts explored throughout the Physical Activity and Sports Studies curriculum.

Year 12 Primary Industries Farm Visit

Year 12 Primary Industry students recently visited Fanning’s farm in Deniliquin, where they completed the competency “Inspect and clean machinery, tools and equipment to preserve biosecurity”. This competency goes towards the Certificate II in Agriculture, which is completed concurrently with the HSC Primary Industries course. Students were impressed by the scale of the enterprise and eagerly assisted with cleaning procedures whilst also learning about the agronomic aspects of broadacre cropping.

Year 12 Human Movement Science Visit to Federation University

Our Year 12 Human Movement Science students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Federation University and gain valuable insight into pathways in sport, exercise, and health-related careers.

During the visit, students explored Federation University’s highly regarded study programs, including Exercise and Sport Science and Health and Physical Education Teaching degrees. The experience provided students with a firsthand look at university facilities, learning environments, and the wide range of career opportunities available within the sport and health industries.

A highlight of the day was participating in practical biomechanics and performance testing similar to what elite athletes and sport scientists use. Students completed agility testing, sprint testing, and vertical jump assessments to analyse speed, power, and movement efficiency. They also took part in a high-level VO2 max test in the university laboratory, gaining insight into aerobic fitness and endurance performance.

These hands-on activities helped students connect classroom learning to real-world sport science applications, while also experiencing the technology and testing methods used in university study and professional sport environments.

A big thank you to Federation University for allowing us to visit, and to the staff and students who participated.

These visits provide an excellent opportunity for students to explore campuses, speak with university staff and current students, attend course information sessions and gain a better understanding of future study pathways.

At this stage, we are looking at possibly organising school-provided bus transport for the following university open days:

  • Monash University – Sunday 2 August
  • La Trobe University – Sunday 2 August
  • University of Melbourne – Sunday 16 August
  • Deakin University – Sunday 16 August
  • Deakin University – Sunday 23 August

Please note that this is currently an expression of interest only to help determine numbers and feasibility. Further details will be provided if sufficient interest is received.

Work Experience

Year 10 students are reminded that Work Experience remains an important opportunity to explore industries, develop workplace skills, and begin building professional networks. Students are encouraged to continue approaching employers directly and organising placements as soon as possible.

Completed Work Experience: Student Placement Record forms are now overdue. There are still a number of students who have not yet submitted their paperwork. Families of students with outstanding forms will be contacted next week to discuss progress and support any students who may still require assistance securing a placement.

For further information or assistance, students and families are welcome to contact Ms Deborah Duncan at dduncan@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.

Year 10 Subject Selection

Over the coming days, Year 10 students will be bringing home some important information to help support them as they begin preparing for subject selection for Year 11 and 12. This material will include a UAC “Steps to Uni” guide specifically designed for Year 10 students, along with more detailed information around HSC subject selection and making informed decisions.

For the remainder of the term, students will also be participating in Career lessons focused on exploring tertiary pathways, post-school options, and the wide range of study and career areas available to them based on their interests, strengths, and future goals. This process is designed to encourage students to think carefully about their future pathways and the opportunities available to them as they move into senior study.
