Primary School

Across this term, students in Year 5 and 6 have been diving into their current Chemical Sciences unit on mixtures, solutions and environmental chemistry. Earlier this term, this learning came to life as students worked in collaborative groups to plan and conduct their own hands-on science investigations.
After exploring a range of materials, students developed their understanding of important material properties such as solubility, density, magnetism and particle size. They also had the opportunity to trial a variety of separation techniques, including filtration, sieving, decanting, magnetism and hand picking. These experiences helped to build the knowledge they needed to design their own fair tests.
Working in small groups, students selected a mixture of materials to investigate. Choice of mixtures included:
- sand, rice and iron filings
- soil, oil and water
- gravel, sand and water
gravel, rice and sand
Each group then considered which separation technique or combination of techniques would be most effective in separating their mixture back into its original components. Students planned their investigation by identifying their aim, hypothesis, variables and method, before conducting their experiment and collecting data.
The classroom was buzzing with interest and teamwork as students tested their ideas, problem-solved, and refined their approaches. This learning not only strengthened their understanding of mixtures and separation but also developed their skills in scientific thinking, fair testing and collaborative investigation. The Stage 3 students should be proud of the thoughtful, creative and evidence-based work that they produced. Enjoy the photos capturing their investigations in action.
Year 6 Peer Support
On Friday 12 June, our Year 6 students demonstrated outstanding leadership and teamwork as they planned for and delivered a Peer Support session focused on the history and significance of Reconciliation Week. Working collaboratively in small groups, students researched key information, prepared an engaging presentation, and organised activities suitable for younger students.
Throughout the process, they showed initiative, responsibility and strong communication skills. They also deepened their understanding of the importance of reconciliation, respect, and recognising the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are incredibly proud of the maturity, leadership and commitment our Year 6 students displayed as they shared this important message with members of our school community.
Kindergarten Update
The students in our Kindergarten classrooms have enjoyed another busy and rewarding term. They have made excellent progress in their writing, engaging with fairy tales and developing their ability to retell stories with a clear beginning, middle and end, while also practising tricky words. In Geography, students have enthusiastically explored special places and community helpers, with many sharing valuable insights about the important roles their families play within our community.
During Pastoral Care, students participated in important Child Safety lessons alongside their peers, which proved to be a meaningful and valuable learning experience for all. Congratulations to Cameron, Ava, Ashlee, Lennie, Lenny and Evie, who were our recent Stage Assembly award recipients. After such a full and successful term of learning, all students are ready for a well-deserved holiday.
Stage 1 Assembly
The Stage 1 Assembly held on Wednesday 20 May was proudly hosted by students in Year 1C, who did an outstanding job engaging the audience throughout the event. Students showcased their learning from InitiaLit by sharing their knowledge of adjectives, with plenty of audience participation making the presentation both interactive and enjoyable.
A highlight for many was singing the familiar Adjectives song together, which had students and staff enthusiastically joining in. The assembly also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our Stage 1 Super Stars recipients. Congratulations to all award winners and to Year 1C for their confident and entertaining presentation.

CIS Cross Country in Sydney
We extend our very best wishes to the students who have qualified for the CIS Cross Country Championships in Sydney, to be held during the holidays on Thursday 25 June. Qualifying for CIS is a significant achievement, placing these students among the top performers in their division and reflecting their dedication, perseverance and commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represent our school.
Congratulations to Ingela Kimberlin, Ava Woolman, Henry Pryde, Josephine Gronow, Sadie Palmer, Brodie Brewer, Jewel Walker, Addison Coburn, Penrose Knight and Maya Woolman. We wish them every success as they compete at this level and look forward to supporting them from afar.
Message from the Office
As we move into the winter months, we kindly ask for families’ support in ensuring students are wearing the correct formal winter uniform each day. Wearing the uniform with consistency helps promote a sense of pride, belonging and unity within our school community.
A friendly reminder that the approved uniform includes blue stockings or plain blue knee-high socks. Short blue socks that show the leg or socks that have logos on them are not part of the formal winter uniform.
Further information about the school uniform can be found in the student diary on pages 12 to 15. We appreciate your support in helping students meet these expectations and thank you for your ongoing partnership in maintaining our high standards.
