Visual Arts

Our creative Level 1 and 2 students have been busy in art learning about how to create with texture using rubbing plates and crayons, followed by how to make a contrasting wash using complimentary colours in water paint. The students then drew outlines with black markers to highlight all the sections. Here are some fabulous creations by 2B- great effort!

Mandarin

As we come to the end of another wonderful term, I would like to thank all students for their enthusiasm, effort, and willingness to challenge themselves in learning Mandarin. It has been a pleasure to see their confidence and skills continue to grow throughout the semester. We finished the term by learning about and celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, giving students an opportunity to explore an important aspect of Chinese culture. I wish all families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break, and I look forward to seeing everyone back for another exciting term of learning.

Physical Education

Level F- 2

Students in F–2 have been developing their throwing and catching skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Using tennis balls, colourful silks, and beanbags, students have been practising different catching techniques and learning strategies to improve their success when catching.

It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence and demonstrate increased control and coordination as they continue to develop these fundamental movement skills.

Level 3 & 4

In Levels 3 & 4, students have been developing their kicking, bouncing, and marking skills through AFL 9s. Throughout the unit, students have been learning and practising the fundamental skills required to play Australian Rules Football, while also improving their teamwork and game awareness.

It has been fantastic to see students applying these skills in game situations and, most importantly, enjoying themselves, with plenty of smiles on display throughout each lesson.

We are now transitioning into Athletics, where students will be developing their sprinting and hurdling skills. Through a variety of drills and activities, students will learn the techniques needed to run efficiently and safely clear hurdles.

These skills will be valuable as students begin preparing for our Athletics Carnival in Term 3, and we look forward to seeing their confidence and performance continue to improve.

 Level 5 and 6

In Levels 5 & 6, students have been developing their kicking, bouncing, and marking skills through AFL 9s.

Science

Foundation

Our little scientists are completing their study of our universe. Last week they created a model of the Moon using nails, hammers, aluminium foil and clay. This week they are learning about being an astronaut and they are creating a model of an astronaut and a rocket.

Level 1 & 2

Our young scientists have continued to create their peg insects or animals. A few classes have also started a SEPS Level 1 & 2 pollinator garden. They have named their plant and they have created informative labels. Next Semester the labels will be in situ, visit the garden the front yard to learn more about your child's plant.

Level 3 & 4

Level 3 and 4 have finished their Earth Moon and Sun unit by learning about Seasons and tides. They have created a model to show that the gravitational pull of the Moon creates a buldge in the ocean (high tide). They learnt why tides are relevant.

Level 5 & 6

Our senior scientists have continued to experimented with refraction. Level 6 created 'cameras' and viewed the school yard through their lens. This week the boys will create a Thaumatrope.

SEPS Pollinator Garden

We are pleased to report that our pollinator garden is attracting a variety of pollinators and insects.

The garden was the vision of the 2025 SEPS Backyard SEPS Academy and Luis Mata. Luis audited the school grounds and designed the pollinator garden. Next Luis and Annie, as representatives of Bayside Village Zero, with help from Lee and others from Lions and the SEPS Backyarders weeded, mulched, planted and water our garden.

Our garden has been admired by many students. It has been weeded and tended by our Green Team lunch club.  It is also being surveyed and added to as part of our Science Program.

The garden was made possible by:

  • Luis, who has dedicated many hours weeding, tending and photographing our garden.Bayside Village Zero who provided volunteers and 50 indigenous plants;
  • Lions Club who provided volunteers;
  • The Bayside Community Nursery who sold us plants at wholesale price; and
  • Most importantly Landcare who provided a Landcare grant in 2025.

We thank these organisations for their financial and volunteer assistance.
