It’s been great to see the way our students have settled into learning this term and many opportunities for engagement are underway. Having no power last Wednesday was a challenge, but most students seemed to thrive on having an opportunity to do some different activities and play some interactive games. It was great to see that our Year 9s could still head out on their city excursion, in preparation for city camp.
Our open invitation for parents to come and join together for a BBQ last Wednesday evening proved to be a great opportunity for meeting each other and having a few snags. Thanks to our Primary team and Admin folks who all chipped in to make this happen.
Last Saturday was the first working bee of the year which resulted in well pruned gardens, pressure cleaned walkways, painted breezeways, drains cleared and more. Thanks for all those that came along to help, enjoy breakfast and good fellowship.
Recently, I had the privilege of having our Prep classes come and visit my office. We shared a story, did an activity and had a great time getting familiar with the Principal's office! (My electric stand up desk was definitely a hit!) The Bilbies even got to meet Ziggy (Mr Beimers' puppet) who popped in at one point. If you get the chance, come and see the beautiful work that the prep kids did which are on display on the office windows.
It was also wonderful to welcome the Primary VIPs to morning tea in my office. This is a tradition at MECS, where students who are VIPs in their classes come for a chat and morning tea with the Principal. The students have been keen to spot the changes in the office and to have a think about the things they love about MECS. The donuts are definitely the highlight for the kids!
Now that the term is well underway, can I remind you that your kids are in good hands and that our staff are only an email away, if there are things you would like to chat with them about. Good communication between parents and staff is valued at MECS as one expression of our opportunity to be in partnership with each other.
Cheers, Michelle
