On Friday 16th November, our 12 student leaders, along with Simone and Olivia, travelled into the city to attend the Halogen National Young Leaders Day Conference.

 

The conference aimed to allow our Student Leadership Team to hear from some inspirational speakers and to reflect on their leadership journey, their skills and talents and their hopes and dreams for the future.

 

The guest speakers were:

 

Anastasia Woolmer - Twice crowned the ‘Australian Memory Champion’ and well known from the ‘Champions’ Tribe on the special ‘Champions v Contenders’ season of Survivor. 

 

Bryson Klein - Multiple Australian Ninja Warrior grand finalist, and part of the ‘USA Versus The World’ team where he won first place.

 

Jane Bunn - A highly accomplished meteorologist and a household name across Victoria as the 7 Network weather presenter. 

 

Melissa BarbieriFormer Matildas Captain and goal keeper. One of Australia’s most awarded female footballers, with 86 games over 13 years for the Matildas. Still playing at her beloved Melbourne City in the A-League Womens. 

 

Some student reflections from their experience:

 

FinlayI found the speeches very interesting and inspiring and I loved hearing about how the people became leaders. Meeting them was also very cool.

 

Mitchell - I had a good day because I met lots of famous people like Jane Bunn. She told us  she decided to do her job because she really loved talking and learning about the weather.

 

Akshara - I loved the people speaking and I found the whole thing very interesting, especially the dancing in the breaks.

 

Yuvraj - I found meeting the speakers quite interesting and I loved listening to all the things that the speakers said and advised.

 

Mila - I really enjoyed how the speakers told their story and told us that it did take a while to reach their goals.

 

Ojus - I found the speeches very inspirational mainly because it felt like we were very close with the speakers and they knew us well.

 

Vihaan - I had a really good time. It was a great experience and we also got to see celebrities like Jane Bunn and and all the speeches were really inspiring.

 

Lucas - It was fun to meet lots of famous people and the speeches were really inspirational.

 

Jay - I think that the speeches were very inspirational and interesting and it was also lots of fun.

 

Sophie - On Friday we had loads of fun. My favorite speaker was Melissa because she was funny and she told us about her story on becoming a Matildas player.

 

UliaI loved the speeches because they were fascinating.

 

Ryan - They were very inspiring and their speeches were great and humorous.

 

We could not have been more proud of our Student Leadership Team on the day and we look forward to seeing them in action this year!
