Physical Education
What a busy few weeks we have had in Physical Education. Over the last 3 weeks students have been competing in swimming competitions and more recently participating in coaching sessions run by some of our successful local sporting clubs. These have included The Bulleen Boomers Basketball Club and the KBH Brumbies Hockey Club. It is always a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to acclaimed coaches in their chosen sport. One of those coaches included Kraig Shields, who is the Boomers internationally selected player from Texas. Kraig gave students an opportunity to practise their dribbling and shooting as well as asking questions about his basketball journey. One of the questions to Kraig was whether he could slam dunk. Kraig performed a slam dunk with ease, which was a huge hit with all the students. KB (Kelvin Bowers) was another coach involved throughout the week. He has been a respected coach internationally for many years. Among his many achievements was playing college basketball against the great Michael Jordan.
Volleyball Club
Our newly appointed House Captains must be complimented on their enthusiasm to date. Already they have conducted games for prep to Level 5 students in the gym as well as running the icy poles sales from the canteen. Another great initiative has been the establishment of a weekly volleyball club in the gym each Tuesday during recess. The captains are passionate volleyball players themselves and have shown great leadership and patience in coaching the younger students, many of whom have not played volleyball before. Stay tuned for more exciting initiatives throughout the year.
