Vivaan - Hello everyone, around two weeks ago, I got the opportunity to attend the Young Leaders Conference in the city. One of the speakers was Anastasia Woolmer, and I would like to talk to you about my experience with her. Anastasia Woolmer is a two- time reigning memory champion for Australia. She spoke about the childhood, about how her academics wasn’t great, and how she loved ballet. On the day, she did a demonstration of her memory and she got everything correct! She even gave us some tips and tricks for keeping your memory sharp. The reason her memory became what it is now, was because after she retired as a dancer, in university she was not doing well. In the end, she was studying three times the amount of study recommended by the teachers. In the end, she received a perfect GPA score, and perfect test scores. Along with that, she developed a fantastic memory and grew to become the Australia’s memory champion. What I learned from her was that, no matter what comes in your way, if you believe in yourself, you can always push through. I hope you have a good week!
Elijah - The past few weeks have been really eventful and enjoyable. Just on Monday we finally got our Grade Six jumpers and two weeks ago the School Captains and I went on an excursion! The excursion involved us going to the city and listening to different presenters. There were four presenters, and I am going to tell you about the second presenter. The second presenter was called Bryson Klein. Whoever has watched Ninja Warriors knows that he was a winner of one of the seasons on the show. Bryson was inspirational but the thing that stood out was that he told us to be the napkin. It may sound random at first but being the napkin has some special meaning. Bryson recalled a memorable trip when he went camping with his mates. On one of the nights Bryson and his friends sat around a campfire and ate food. Randomly one of Bryson’s friends threw a napkin in the fire. They decided to count how long the napkin would last. In the end the napkin lasted more than 20 minutes in the fire. All of Bryson’s friends and himself were amazed! The napkin was always a reminder to all of them to stay strong despite the environment. I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to go to the city and participate. I hope everyone has a good week and an even better weekend!
Hayley - The Young Leaders Conference was the most fun day of my whole entire life! I got to bond with my school captain buddies, we saw lots of amazing speakers and of course we saw lots of Taylor swift fans (Swifties) that were going to the concert and bought merch! I also got a pin that represents Young Leaders. It was quite expensive ($5) but very much worth it. I will be talking about the third speaker we met, Jane Bunn. As you probably would know Jane Bunn is the Channel Seven Weather Reporter. I really admire how brave she is to go on television in-front of so many people in Australia every night. She taught me the importance of braveness, kindness and her story. She wrote a book about her childhood dog - Stampy. Sadly she has no passed away but she has dedicated the book that she wrote, Storm, to her. It is very upsetting but she was still positive and had loads of energy. I learnt a lot about confidence, positivity and bouncing back. As she finished her speech, we went to go and take photos with her! Luckily we bought the book before hand so we didn’t have to wait in the massive line. Once it was our turn we took a picture with her and got her autograph in our newly bought Storm books! We did lots of fun activities and along the way going and coming back we had some some treats! Delicious! The school captains and I have also taken pictures with our new Grade Six jackets! They have turned out so good! I cannot wait for more of Grade Six to come! Thank you and have a great week!
Chloe - Hello everyone! As most of you might know, my name is Chloe and I’ll be telling you about my experience on National Young Leaders Day! On the 16th of February I attended the Leadership Conference with the other School Captains and Mrs Milanese, one of our Level 6 teachers. On that day we had to take the bus into the city. We bought some delicious snacks on the way! We heard many known people speak on that day, such as Anastasia Woolmer, Bryson Klein, Jane Bunn and Melissa Barbieri. The one speaker who inspired me and caught my attention the most was Melissa Barbieri, former Soccer Matildas Captain and Goalkeeper. I loved how she was very determined and persistent and always kept trying! She told us that when she was young she was not allowed to play due to her being a female. Her dream was to compete in the Olympics! She didn’t succeed at first but worked her very hardest and in the end she, of course, succeeded! Melissa missed many big chances in her career but that didn’t mean she had to stop believing and quit. I think that Melissa is a very determined and inspirational person that never gives up when something isn’t right.
