During this fortnight in the 3 and 4 year old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading
  • Learning to decipher what a book is about through looking closely at the cover illustration.
  • Borrowing books from the ELC Library to read at home
Writing
  • Developing a hand preference through drawing and painting and use tools such as scissors and ‘pizza’ cutters
  • Developing and refining fine motor skills through the use of playdough, picking up small objects, playing with the tap tap (hammering) boards
STEM
  • Developing an understanding of descriptive language as they explore different textures, including hard, soft, smooth, rough, and spikey
  • Becoming familiar with different shapes and their names as they build constructions with small wooden blocks
Inquiry
  • Exploring the Unit of Inquiry: Healthy choices, Healthy me
Social & emotional learning
  • Continuing to build the children’s understanding of a range of emotions, how these appear through facial expressions and possible events that may lead to us feeling that way.
