During this fortnight in the 3 and 4 year old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:
Reading
Learning to decipher what a book is about through looking closely at the cover illustration.
Borrowing books from the ELC Library to read at home
Writing
Developing a hand preference through drawing and painting and use tools such as scissors and ‘pizza’ cutters
Developing and refining fine motor skills through the use of playdough, picking up small objects, playing with the tap tap (hammering) boards
STEM
Developing an understanding of descriptive language as they explore different textures, including hard, soft, smooth, rough, and spikey
Becoming familiar with different shapes and their names as they build constructions with small wooden blocks
Inquiry
Exploring the Unit of Inquiry: Healthy choices, Healthy me
Social & emotional learning
Continuing to build the children’s understanding of a range of emotions, how these appear through facial expressions and possible events that may lead to us feeling that way. As they arrive at kinder the children are beginning to place their own photos on the Zones of Regulation posters to indicate how they are feeling
