Upcoming learning:

During the next fortnight, Year 3 students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

NAPLAN: Over the next fortnight NAPLAN style questions will be practised daily in reading, writing, language conventions and number. We will also be doing practise NAPLAN sessions to give students an idea of what NAPLAN will look like and what to expect. The hope is that this will elevate stress for students on the day.

Literacy: In reading, in the next fortnight, we will be having a narrative focus. Continuing to practise summarising using the prompts of 'who, what, when, why, where'. If families can encourage this at home during home reading it will greatly assist students.

In writing, in the next fortnight, we will be linking writing to reading, using narrative texts, planning for writing using the 6 W's.

Maths: In the next fortnight, will be learning time, including reading calendars, and using clocks, both analogue and digital to read time of quarter past and to, and 5 minutes to the hour.

Inquiry: Our topic this term is 'How can I create a healthy me?'

Students will be investigating the connection between a healthy body and mind to contribute to healthy and active environments. We have noticed as a cohort that a large portion of our students are checking in of the mornings feeling tired. As a result we will be learning about healthy sleep patterns and how to manage stress in the lead up to NAPLAN.

S.E.L.: We will be forming positive relationships, working in teams, dealing effectively with conflict by recognising student's emotions and values, as well as their strengths and challenges. We will continue to work closely with the new school values of, kindness, respect and resilience. We will use these values to understand The Matrix of Expected behaviours in and around the school. In particular discussing students' strong emotions, and their personal strengths to assist students with learning resilience.

News and reminders

Hats: Please remember hats are required throughout terms 1 (until April) and 4. Students without hats will be asked to sit/play under the shade sail on the courtyard steps.

Drink bottles: Please remember to bring a drink bottle to school every day, but more importantly throughout the summer terms. It saves disruption to your child's learning when this is accessible within the room.

NAPLAN dates: Year 3 and 5 will be participating in NAPLAN.Writing Wednesday 13th March, Reading Thursday 14th March, Language conventions Friday 15th March, and Numeracy Monday 18th March. Please see your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions regarding your child's participation in any of these days.
