Learning in Action
Reading:
In reading this fortnight students have been learning about what a narrator is and how we can identify who is telling the story in the books we read. As a whole class we identified what a character trait is and brainstormed internal and external traits that characters can have and how they help us understand characters better.
Preview for Learning:
We will be continuing to look at character traits and identifying if there is a narrator or if not, who is telling the story.
Writing:
This fortnight we have continued to focus on constructing simple sentences, ensuring to include one subject, verb and object. Students edited sentences to include capital letters for proper nouns and had to identify where to add full stops.
Our handwriting focus this fortnight was half-moon letters and sideways letters, these are c, a, d, e, g, o, q, s, f, t and z.
Preview for Learning:
We will be adding another element to the construction of our simple sentences. Students will include an adjective as well as a subject, verb and object.
Maths:
Students have been continuing to use concrete materials to deepen their understanding of 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. Students have been learning that a group of 'these' is the same as one of 'those' and the position of a digit in a number represents the value. Students explored measurement further by finding something that was shorter and heavier than their shoe. In week 6 we began our data unit and students had to select a topic, collect data and use tally marks to represent their data.
Preview for Learning:
Students will be learning about zero as a place holder and how to make and represent a number that contains a zero. Students will be looking at data and identifying different ways to categorise it.
Inquiry:
Students have continued to explore different elements of a community rule and worked within their groups to discuss the impacts of these rules. Students collaborated within their groups to discuss how they can respond with kindness when they see a rule being broken and consequences that can occur.
Wellbeing:
This fortnight students explored what healthy and unhealthy friendships look like and the impacts that body language has on friendships and how we can resolve conflict.

Exciting times ahead in STEM!
We are thrilled to share some exciting updates about our STEM program! As we continue to inspire and empower our students to explore the wonders of these vital fields, we are reaching out to our wonderful community for support.
Your generosity has always been instrumental in helping us provide enriching educational experiences for our students, and we are once again asking for your support to ensure the success and sustainability of our STEM initiatives.
Your support makes a significant difference to our students' learning opportunities and the success of our STEM program. Here are a few ways you can contribute:
Opportunities to help:
- Donations of Timber/Wood, appropriate for construction E.g. Billy Cart bases or other small vehicles.
- If you own or are a part of a company or business who would be willing to sponsor our engineering program.
- If you have connections with hardware stores/companies, helping us to make contact in order to obtain suitable engineering resources.
- If you have any household STEM-related materials such as; plastic bottles, milk bottle lids, masking tape, balloons, wooden skewers, plastic or paper cups, unwanted CD’s or DVD’s, Aluminium Foil please drop them off outside the STEM room.
- Construction Crew: If you're handy with tools and have some basic experience in woodwork or mechanics, we would be delighted to have your help in the upcoming terms to assist with our Grade 6 Science and Engineering program.
