Important Reminders!
All important dates and events are on our Compass Calendar, please check the calendar regularly to stay up to date!
- Please return the completed ‘All About Me Placemat’ as it is DUE back by Friday the 8th of March. Students will present these to the grade the following week.
- Please bring a shoebox into your child's classroom teacher for the upcoming 'Teddy Bear Picnic' Day.
- Students are required to bring their take-home bags to school daily. This will be used to send home notices, student work and take-home books.
- We continue to have discussions with the children about picking up hats when they fall off and placing school jumpers back in bags. If your child loses one of their items, please check lost property, which is located opposite the first aid room.
Learning in Action
Literacy:
Students have revised the ‘satpin’ letter sounds and applied their knowledge to read and write 2-3 letter words. In Reading, students were introduced to the nursery rhymes ‘Little Miss Piggy’ and ‘One, Two, Buckle my Shoe’. Students learnt the words with actions and drew pictures of the characters and events to show their understanding. In Writing, students looked at the Peggy Lego patterns, ‘Jack and Jill’ and ‘Over and Under the Gate’. Students were also introduced to ‘subjects’, which are people, places and things. Students collaborated with a partner to identify the subjects in a picture.
Preview - Students will continue reading and writing words and will engage in phonics games to develop their phonological awareness. Students will learn what a verb is and use their knowledge of subjects and verbs to construct sentences orally.
Maths:
Over the past fortnight, students have learnt about the numbers 2 and 3. Students enjoyed representing the number in tally marks, on a die, tens frame, as a word and noticing where we see this number in the real world, for example we have 2 ears or a tricycle has 3 wheels. We also focused on making and representing numbers with unifix.
We have continued learning about shapes and learnt about their features, including how many sides each shape has. Students used their creative learning superpower to ‘be creative’ and draw a shape monster including circles, triangles, squares and rectangles.
Preview- Next fortnight we will continue to focus on the numbers 1-10 and continue to compare and order numbers.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry Students learnt about ‘Good Choices’ and ‘Bad Choices’. As a class we discussed what makes a good choice and what makes a bad choice. Students then used this knowledge to sort actions onto a ‘Good Choice’ and a ‘Bad Choice’ poster. In Inquiry we reflected on our own personal strengths and shared these with the class.
Preview- We will be reading the Rainbow fish and exploring what makes a good friend.
Wellbeing:
In Wellbeing we have been learning how to recognise emotions. We had fun working with our classmates to play a game where we took turns guessing each other's emotions based on our body language and expressions. We have also had fun working with our ‘Buddies’. Together students listened to a story book and worked together to illustrate the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Preview-
Students will learn to recognise the kids of experiences that may trigger particular emotions. We will have our first whole school Circles session!
Curious Corner:
Prep students continue to love visiting our new ‘Curious Corner’ play based learning space. Students have focused on how to take turns, the importance of including others and sharing.
Exciting times ahead in STEM!
We are thrilled to share some exciting updates about our STEM program! As we continue to inspire and empower our students to explore the wonders of these vital fields, we are reaching out to our wonderful community for support.
Your generosity has always been instrumental in helping us provide enriching educational experiences for our students, and we are once again asking for your support to ensure the success and sustainability of our STEM initiatives.

REMINDER: Research project in your child’s classroom – seeking your consent
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Our Prep - year 2 teachers will be engaged in professional learning over the next two years with Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and the La Trobe University’s Science of Language and Reading Lab (SOLAR Lab). The focus is on professional learning for our early years (Prep – Year 2) teachers. To assess the effectiveness of this professional learning, we will monitor student progress in literacy and would like to share this data for analysis with the research team. If you consent for us to share your child’s de-identified reading assessment data with AERO and the La Trobe University’s Science of Language and Reading Lab (SOLAR Lab), please complete the consent form link here: https://edresearch.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_428DHXC2BpQAIGW. Please note, you can consent for multiple children on the same form.
If you have already consented for your child/children and in the future you decide to withdraw, then complete the withdrawal form link here: https://edresearch.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7aeUoRln50TuSKq
