Hello from Grade 5/6 JC

Students in Grade 5/6 JC have had a busy start to the term. For the first five weeks, our focus has been on non‑fiction texts and report writing, where students are learning how to research and present information clearly.
In Mathematics, we have revised the processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and are now developing our understanding of fractions.
In our Inquiry Unit, students are exploring how animals and plants adapt to their living environments. They are completing a variety of tasks designed to extend their understanding of this concept and encourage deeper thinking.
Writing
Grade 5 and 6 students have been busy researching an animal that caught their interest. After collecting facts from books and reliable websites, they put together PowerPoint reports to share what they learned. From habitats and diets to fun and surprising facts, students worked hard to present their information in a way others can enjoy and learn from.
Here are some examples below…
Jets Gym
Our Jets Gym program kicked off on Monday, and students jumped straight into their first session with lots of excitement. They explored different stations, practised new movement skills, and enjoyed being active together. Check out the action photos below to see them in motion.
Mathematics
All students across the school have access to Essential Assessment. This is a mathematics program that provides activities matched to each child’s individual learning needs. After a student completes an assessment, they are given a range of learning tasks tailored to help them progress and work towards their next learning goals. Students can also access and use this program at home.
