Music

This week in music, our F1 students continued to work on their improvisation skills. We used glockenspiels to demonstrate some of the musical elements; pitch/melody, dynamics and tempo. Then we created a sound track for a story about a gentle cat and a boisterous dog. There were some excellent sounds and creativity, as well as impeccable listening and self-control.
Our 234s have really taken a leap with their note reading. We have been looking at the picture book Wombat Stew, using the musical elements of timbre, dynamics, tempo and pitch. We have also been reading the sheet music to play the song. "Wombat stew, wombat stew, gooey brewy, yummy chewy, wombat stew!"
We also played a racing game down the keyboards learning all the note names.
Our grade 56s are preparing for some very exciting opportunities to share their expanding musical skills. We have audiences for some of our students at the Castlemaine Library, Berkeley Street Kindergarten, and also with our wonderful lower grades here at St Marys. Students will work in small groups as they head out to support one another, share music, and extend their performance capabilities in authentic, supported environments.
One of the harder parts of a music lesson can be when I say, “Stop.” Putting our instruments down and stopping what we are doing, takes a lot of self-control. I am pleased to report that all of our children at St Marys do an outstanding job of it. What a pleasure it is to work with such wonderful children who follow instructions so well!
