Celebrating Student Achievements

Regularly we love to profile the amazing things our students do outside of school, from achievements and competitions they win, to just the general celebrations of the good work they do in the wider community.

If you wish to (humbly) brag about your student’s amazing outside of school talents, please fill out this brief survey, or reach out to me via email: https://forms.office.com/r/nNG6bn0SLj

Whilst we don’t have to publish them here, we love hearing about and celebrating the amazing things our students do outside of school so to anyone reading; feel free to reach out and let us know of the terrific work our current and ex-students are doing out there in the community.

Winner of the best Australian Short Film at the Gippsland International Film Festival.

Late in March, NHS media graduate Andy Jadwiga Laylcark was awarded ‘Best Australian Short Film’ for “In the Trees” at the Gippsland International Film Festival. Andy graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2024. Congratulations to Andy for another award, having been selected in numerous short film festivals since graduating NHS in 2021.  “Blood, bones, war, violence, fish guts, wooden swords. This is the story of Sasha the Great and Rory the Brave. Two leaders of opposing forest fort gangs, whose relations have been exclusively on the battlefield, but now their mums are friends...

After shared vulnerability and secrets exposed, Rory and Sasha bond over their mutual interest in medieval warfare. This gets tricky once they return to their respective gangs and are forced to betray their newfound alliance. It’s a story with the heart of Stand By Me, the plot of a Shakespearean epic, and the look of a gladiator film. It’s about being a kid but feeling like you have the responsibility of a nation on your shoulders, It’s about those first moments of finding your own moral compass, and most importantly, it’s about medieval military strategy hyper fixations.”
