Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental Studies – Latest Excursions!
Our Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental Studies students have recently enjoyed two fantastic excursions that combined skill development, safety awareness, and hands‑on learning in artificial (man-made) outdoor environments.
Surfing at URBNSURF
The class were lucky enough to have a surfing excursion at URBNSURF, where they were treated to stunning sunny weather and ideal conditions. The day focused on water safety, including identifying rips, practising rip swims, and learning surf rescue techniques. Students then put their skills to the test on the waves, with many experiencing great success—numerous students managed to stand up on their boards more than ten times! The session was a highlight for many and showcased growing confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
Rock Climbing at Gravity Worx
Our second excursion took students to Gravity Worx for an indoor rock‑climbing experience. Here, students explored the concept of an “artificial” outdoor environment while learning about the evolution of climbing technologies. A strong emphasis was placed on safety precautions, correct use of equipment, and how to conduct rock climbing responsibly and safely. Students challenged themselves physically while gaining valuable knowledge about risk management and modern outdoor practices.
