Wonderful 1/2

0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 1 Week 4 2024 -  Friday 23rd February

What have we been up to?

Over the last 2 weeks, the 1/2s have dived into their learning and continue to show positive attitudes towards classroom activities, embracing the challenges with a smile.

The 1/2 teaching team are continuing to embed consistent routines and structure into the students' days and to their credit, they have responded well and taken it all ‘in their stride’ which has been very pleasing to see.

Mr. Downs and Ms. Buchan have settled in well and are enjoying getting to know all of their students and the wider Le Page community.

Since creating our Classroom W.I.G’s and Classroom Mission Statements, students have been working really hard to achieve their goals and ensure that they are following the  expectations and guidelines that have been discussed and decided on as a class.

The students have spent weeks 3&4 working in their Little Learner’s Love Literacy groups where they have been practicing spelling, writing, reading and playing literacy based games such as C vs V (consonant versus vowel) which is fabulous for sound recognition, letter recognition and movement. Everyone has responded positively to the new learning and settled into their groups well. We have all been working very hard in Reading and Writing where we have been looking at the conventions of writing and the use of nouns and verbs in our sentences. Students have been showing great enthusiasm with the Write2Learn program which has been fabulous to see. And we are continuing to work on ‘Alfie’s Search for Destiny’ which has been enjoyed by all.

Students have also shown fabulous enthusiasm for their Specialist classes - Visual and Performing Arts (Music), AUSLAN, PE and Culture which has seen them participate in a wide variety of activities over the fortnight.

What is coming up?

Reading

For the next two weeks the students will have a focus on Narrative texts. We will be reading  ‘Alfie’s Search for Destiny’ by David Hardy for both weeks and focusing on different sections of the book. There will also be a focus on comprehension and reading fluency.

Writing

For writing, students will have a focus on sentence structure and handwriting using the Write 2 Learn program. They will also be using the text ‘Alfie’s Search for Destiny’ to dissect the author's choices and language and use it to write their own narrative paragraphs.

Maths

To kick off our number and algebra exploration, students will be focusing on counting and ‘trusting the count’. Students will engage in a range of activities that strengthen their counting skills and number recognition.

Inquiry & Science

Students will continue their Inquiry unit “The Outside World” and their Science unit “Chemical Science”.
