Welcome Year 7!

What a Great Start!

Our Year 7 students have transitioned into High School here at Wantirna College incredibly well, with staff from all areas of the school telling us how polite, friendly, and enthusiastic they are. Mr Elliott and I, as Year Level Leader’s could not be prouder of how they have settled into the school and we look forward to seeing the big things they can achieve this year.

This year, we have set the theme of ‘Connect’ with our Year 7’s. Our aim, as Year Level Leaders, is to connect with your children as best as we can.  We will do this by being visible in the yard when we can, doing walks around to our Year 7 classes to see what they are learning, and also doing some informal check-ins with students.

We want your children to be able to Connect with their peers and teachers throughout this year.  Our School Wide Positive Behaviours, together with our wonderful classroom routines and  the excellent range of classroom activities that our teachers run, provide your child with the best opportunity to do so.

Ultimately, we want all of our Year 7’s to have the best year that they can, and connect with as many people as possible to give them the best chance to succeed at whatever they put their minds to. So far, we have seen some incredible things - just look at the photos from some of our classes today. We are very excited for camp next week, make sure you read the next edition of the College Newsletter for all the Yr 7 Camp photos!

Year 7 Family Fun Night

Last night, our College hosted the annual Year 7 Family Fun Night, bringing together families, educators, and the community for an evening of connection, building new relationships and renewing old ones. Amidst the relaxed atmosphere, attendees enjoyed a range of activities designed to foster bonds and build relationships.

Senior Wurundjeri Elder, Uncle Ringo, welcomed our new Year 7 families to Wantirna College with a smoking ceremony.

We extend that welcome and thank our families for coming along and getting to know our school and our teachers. Shout out to our extra special Year 10 Peer Support Leaders who ran workshops with our families and cooked up a storm on the BBQ. Bring on Year 7 camp!

Following the Smoking Ceremony, we ran presentations on Inclusion support and the philosophies behind our Schoolwide Positive Behaviours (see page 7) and our Assessment practices, which help us to get to know the student.

Meaningful conversations with the Transition Support Teachers were had, and the event provided a platform for parents, students, and staff to interact and engage in a shared experience.

Through these interactions, the connections between the College and the wider community were strengthened, highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration in creating a supportive educational environment, and the team around the leaner. By nurturing these relationships, we continue to lay the foundation for a stronger, more connected community within and beyond our college walls.
