Dear Parents/Carers

We sincerely hope that the commencement of the first term has been relatively smooth for all students and trust that the Homeroom Mentor Teacher meetings have provided a strong foundation for partnership between home and school. At Mount Alvernia College, teachers understand the importance of that partnership and will make contact with parents where there are concerns around student behaviour or outcomes.

Celebration of 2023 Results

I would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate our 2023 Seniors on their outstanding results. We are heartened that our results over time show year on year improvement, which speaks both to the resounding efforts of all stakeholders, and to the areas that have been strategically prioritized.

A snapshot of results, is included below:

These results show growth across both ATAR and Vocational pathways.

I also congratulate our returning students, who achieved another set of excellent results at the end of Semester Two. Parents of students receiving an award should by now have be contacted with their invitation to the Awards Assemblies. Please make contact with Ms Wren Ramierez (ramiw@staff.mta.qld.edu.au) if  you believe you should have received an invitation but haven’t.

As always, our Awards Assemblies are formal occasions which acknowledge both achievement and improvement.

The Academic Achievement Assembly – Gold, Silver and Bronze, will take place on Thursday 8 February from 8.50 a.m. The Academic Improvement Assembly is scheduled for Thursday 22 February, again from 8.50 a.m. Both events are held in San Damiano.

MyMtA

Throughout 2023, the College made significant progress in the development of course and unit pages on MyMtA.  While some subject areas will also use OneNote, parents and students can have confidence that common learning resources are accessible through the MyMtA Learning Management System. Such resources include access to:

  • Course and Unit Overviews
  • Assessment tasks
  • Content
  • Activities
  • Videos

Where students have been absent, it will not be necessary to contact individual teachers for work. This will be available automatically to students through the learning platform.

Parents and students will also be able to access other ‘academic’ resources from MyMtA. Through the ‘Academic Tile’ parents will be able to access:

  • Year level stationery lists
  • Assessment calendars
  • Exam schedules
  • Tips on high impact learning strategies
  • Academic mentoring support schedule

The ‘Policy and Procedures’ Tile on MyMtA, also stores all Academic Policies, particularly those relating to:

  • Homework
  • Academic Integrity
  • Assessment

Parents and students are asked to engage with the tiles of the dashboard in seeking information that might be necessary.

For 2024, assessment feedback and results are accessible to parents through MyMtA, via the Reports & Feedback tile located on the homepage dashboard.

The aim here is to reduce the need for students and parents to work across multiple platforms – in short, to ensure a more seamless user experience. We believe this is important to lessen the cognitive overload and dissonance.

We would ask all parents to ensure they have downloaded the MyMtA App, to ensure they can engage fully in the partnership between home and school.

I wish all students a wonderful 2024 and look forward to working with them to achieve wonderful things.

Peace and all good
