Fortnight Highlights!

Year 7 & New Students Welcome Ceremony

During Week 1, we had the honour of officially welcoming our 2024 Year 7 cohort and 20 new students from various year levels as fully fledged members of Mount Alvernia College.

Each student was presented with their College and House badges, which were blessed by Sister Catherine White, Community Coordinator of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters Australia. We look forward to witnessing each student grow at Mt A and are truly thrilled to welcome them into our Franciscan community.

Year 12 Commissioning Ceremony

It was wonderful to celebrate with the Senior Class of 2024 at our recent Commissioning Ceremony. Each Year 12 student proudly received their Senior badge and tie, symbolising their role as leaders.

We eagerly anticipate the success and support they'll showcase within our Franciscan Community.

Year 7 Camp

This week we farewelled our Year 7 cohort as they embarked on their first Mt A camp experience. What a way to start high school! Our young adventurers took on challenges that not only tested their individual strengths but also forged stronger connections with their peers.

From outdoor adventures to collaborative problem-solving, each activity was designed to foster teamwork and resilience. We don't doubt that our Year 7 cohort enjoyed getting to know their peers on this 3-day adventure!

Homeroom Mentor Meetings

Mt A remains dedicated to fostering strong connections with every student and their families right from the beginning. During week 1, our Homeroom Mentor Teachers engaged in one-on-one meetings with Year 7-10 students and their parents. These purposeful and tailored connections aimed to share goals and aspirations for the year ahead.

This approach has proven to be a unique and effective way to cultivate a sense of belonging for our students while ensuring that our teachers can provide the best support for their Educational Wellbeing. We extend our thanks to everyone who participated in these meetings!

Year 8 Visual Art - Boorongur Making

This week Year 8 Visual Arts students engaged in the creation of a Boorongur (totem), inspired by the artistic practices of Indigenous artist Sharyn Egan. The process involved quiet meditation and self-reflection, leading students to craft a totem using raffia and wool to symbolise various aspects of themselves. We have no doubt that this experience was enriching for our Year 8 Visual Art students. Special thanks to Mrs. Sharon O'Leary and our Technologies Faculty for orchestrating this meaningful opportunity.
