From the Acting Assistant Principal

Hello OPS community and welcome back for 2024.

I am pleased to confirm that I will continue to be your primary contact for student wellbeing support, and I look forward working with you all again this year.

We will be scheduling Student Support Group meetings for individual students in the coming weeks and there will also be an opportunity for you to meet the classroom teachers at our Meet and Greet conversations on the 13th and 14th of February. I encourage you all to attend so that we can work together to support our students.

Feeling Safe Together program

We are fortunate to have secured a spot with SECASA to come and present the Feeling Safe Together program to all our students this term. This is a highly valued program that compliments the Respectful Relationships program that is already in place. All classes will take part in two sessions over the coming weeks and there will be a teacher support session as well as a parent information session next Wednesday evening. I apologise for the late notice regarding the dates of this program, but it has all just been confirmed and I’m sure you’ll agree, it is a wonderful opportunity for our students. Please provide consent as soon as possible to ensure your child can participate.

The Feeling Safe Together program is a protective behaviours program developed for primary school aged children. Each year level receives tailored information based on age appropriate materials. The Feeling Safe Together program focuses on empowerment, communication, self-esteem, resilience and social skills. The program aims to provide children with the tools and strategies to face uncertain situations or environments in a safer way, keeping in mind however, that it is ultimately always the responsibility of an adult to ensure a child is protected and safe.

Lunch Orders

We have decided to use one provider this term in response to some parent concerns. This is temporary and after community consultation, we anticipate returning to lunch choices to suit everyone. I thank you for your patience as we work through this and encourage you to respond to the lunch survey that will come out in the coming weeks.

Uniforms and Belongings

Please ensure that you have named all items of uniform, particularly hats and jackets. Hats must be worn in Term 1 and it is a good idea to put jackets in bags even on very warm days given our unexpected weather changes in Melbourne.

As always, you are welcome to contact me for any support at any time.

Have a great week.
