Dear Families
St Louis House Day
This week saw the celebration of St Louis House Day, an occasion that honours Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, after whom the original St Louis School in Claremont was named. Born in 1568 to a noble Italian family, Aloysius Gonzaga renounced his inheritance to join the Society of Jesus at a young age. Despite his fragile health, he was dedicated to studying theology and caring for the sick, particularly during the plague in Rome. His compassion and selflessness led to his early death at the age of 23 from the plague. Aloysius Gonzaga is remembered for his deep piety and is the patron saint of young students and Christian youth. In our contemporary context, we continue his legacy to encourage students to value the more important things in life, such as purposeful endeavours and supportive relationships. Thank you to Mr Joe Shaw, St Louis House Coordinator and Homeroom Teachers for leading students in a range of activities in celebration of the day.
St Louis House Prayer
Lord, help us to be inspired by the example of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. Help us to value the important things in life such as relationships with others rather than material possessions.
Lord, we thank you for the fortunate life that we have all been bless with. May we appreciate our good health and share it with those less fortunate.
Lord, open our ears and our hearts to the lessons we learn each and every day. May these lessons bring us closer to you.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord, and with the intercession of our founders:
Pope John XXIII Pray for us
Ignatius of Loyola Pray for us
Mary Ward Pray for us
Year 10 Course Counselling
This is an exciting time for Year 10 students as they consider their senior years and post-high school pathways. Students have been engaging in various pathways planning activities this term, culminating in Monday’s Pathways Planning Day, where they enjoyed a subject and careers expo and learned more about the different courses and pathways offered in Year 11 as part of the course selection process. Thank you to the team of staff: Mr Tim Chaney, Assistant Deputy Principal – Year 10, Mrs Jane Hedley, Head of Pathways Planning, Mr Chris Morris, Deputy Principal – Teaching & Learning and Ms Kelli Beaton, for their organisation of this very informative event.
Last weekend’s Music Camp was a huge success, thank you to all involved, particularly our wonderful parent volunteers, Mr James Kros and staff, for their time and effort so that students could enjoy a weekend of performance and camaraderie with each other. We wish Years 11 and 12 Music students all the best as they represent the College at the Australian Combined Schools Music Festival, currently occurring in Adelaide.
Congratulations to all Year 8 students who competed in Wednesday’s NAS Winter Carnival and Lightning Carnivals. A fun day for all despite the wet weather, a number of teams enjoyed the success of being crowned premiers for their division.
The Years 11/12 NAS Winter Carnival is next Wednesday, with all students either representing the College or participating in a wellbeing day on campus. This is a compulsory school day for students, and we wish everyone a fantastic day.

eRideables: Keeping Safe
eScooters and other electric rideable devices are becoming increasingly popular among young people. For students who ride their eScooters to and from school, please be reminded of the current laws regarding their use:
It has been reported that some students have been riding their eScooter in excess of the speed limit, placing them and others in danger. Please take the time to discuss the importance of road and footpath safety with your child if they own an eScooter. More information can be found at eRideables (www.wa.gov.au).

Year 7 Japanese United Nations Fashion Parade
The Year 7 Japanese students have been learning how to ask and respond to questions about name, age, nationality, likes, dislikes and clothing. The students had the opportunity to put these skills into practice by interviewing and presenting their classmates in Japanese in our own JTC “mock” United Nations Fashion Parade. Their presentation included presenting their partner’s name, age, nationality and describing their likes, dislikes and what they were wearing in Japanese.
Well done to the Year 7 Japanese students for learning and presenting the language with confidence. Thanks to Aghdasi Sensei for preparing them for this culturally enriching task.
Year 8 Japanese Making Onigiri
On Monday of this week, our Year 8 Japanese students made ‘onigiri’ or Japanese rice balls wrapped in seaweed. The students had a wonderful time preparing their ‘onigiri’, and some even decorated them. They also learnt table manners in Japan and what behaviour is appropriate when using chopsticks.
Aghdasi Sensei and Glass Sensei were very impressed with the students’ behaviour, and as we gave each of them a scoop of rice, they all said 'arigatou' or thank you without being prompted.
Well done, Year 8 Japanese!
