Science Discovery Dome Incursion

The Junior School were excited to welcome Nick and Tania from the Science Discovery Dome on Thursday as part of our Inquiry unit, Our Changing Planet: Caring for Our World. Inside the inflatable dome, students were taken on an exciting and immersive journey through space. They explored fascinating concepts such as the weather, day and night, the sun, and our incredible solar system!

Here’s what some of our Junior School students had to say:

Prep

"Tomorrow we will see Mercury in the sky. The sun is SO hot!" - Freddie

"Earth is in the solar system. When we spin around the sun, it can get hotter and colder." - Porter

"Jupiter is the biggest planet- all of the planets could fit inside! The sun is made of very hot gas." - Vivienne

"The dome was exciting. It looked like there was a TV all around us! There was a little thing (projector) that made pictures. The moon also controls the tides." - Marnie

Year 1

"I thought there were going to be little seats inside, but we laid on the ground! It was dark and scary, but exciting!" - Aaliyah

"The planetarium was super cool. We could see lots of rocks and stars in space." - Charlie

"When I first walked into the dome, I was so shocked that there were 3D pictures on the roof. There was a meteorite that came towards us. I was kind of scared, but also excited." - Florence

"My favourite part was when it was moving. When the asteroid came towards us, I put my jacket over my face!" - Ivy N

Year 2

"I learned that the sun is HUGE! If the Earth were a grain of sand, the sun would be a tennis ball." - Aida

"I learned that we can't see all the planets from Earth. We can see Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter" - Quinn

"The dome was enormous! It looked just like space. The stars are actually really big! But to us they look tinsey winsey because they are so far away." - Maeve

"The planetarium was cool like space. When it showed the sun and the moon, it looked like cheese! But actually, the sun's made of gas." - Daisy
