Principal's Report

Dear Families and Friends,

Hi everyone,

We’re heading into the final stretch of Term 2, and what a busy and exciting time it’s been across the school!

Culminating Event – Tuesday 17 June

Our students and staff have been working incredibly hard all semester, and we’re really looking forward to showcasing this at our Culminating Event on Tuesday 17 June. This is a wonderful chance to see the amazing learning that’s taken place in classrooms – we hope you can join us and celebrate with us!

Sports Day – Wednesday 26 June

Another date to pop in the calendar is our Sports Day on Wednesday 26 June. Students will be participating in a range of fun and inclusive activities such as various races, long jump, shot put and there is a ‘surprise’ race by the staff. Classes have already started practising and there’s a buzz of excitement in the air. Please note: the front office will be closed for the day so all staff can be out supporting students.

Rockhampton Show Day

We hope you all enjoy your day off for the Rockhampton Show Holiday. Behind the scenes, our senior students have been getting into the show spirit by decorating a bull cutout to go on display at the showgrounds! This creative project has been led by Deb and her class, and they’ve done a fantastic job – keep an eye out for our colourful contribution if you head out to the show.

Report Cards and Moderation

Teachers are currently busy writing report cards and also moderating student results to ensure consistency and accuracy across the school. It’s a big job, and I want to thank our staff for the care and professionalism they bring to this process.

Phonics Progress

We’ve also had some exciting data come in around our phonics program. Led by our Pedagogy Coach, Nicole, our latest phonics assessments show a strong improvement in students’ ability to identify sounds, blend sounds into words, and segment words into individual sounds. Why do we teach phonics? It’s a foundational skill for reading and spelling. By explicitly teaching students how words work, we’re helping them become more confident communicators – and this growth is something we’re really proud of!

Warm Regards,

Dehlia
