Year 11 & 12 Retreat
Despite the rain, the mud, and even a surprise encounter with a kangaroo on the way to Creswick, the 2025 Yr 11 & 12 Retreat was absolutely worth every soggy sock and muddy shoe. From the giant swing and leap of faith to the cheeky Maccas run on the way home, camp was packed with unforgettable moments. We left school at 3:40pm and arrived at camp just after 6:00pm, where we were greeted by friendly instructors and a legendary camp chef. That first night’s dinner butter chicken with naan, followed by chocolate cake and ice cream set the bar high, and the food stayed amazing the whole time. Our first evening included a wellbeing session with Tash, where we listened to a heartfelt story and completed a self-care checklist. After settling into our rooms and getting some rest, Zoe woke us bright and early for an 8:00am breakfast. The next two days were full of adventurous activities, including clip and climb, the initiatives course, the giant swing, and ziplining. Even though it was cold and wet, we pushed through and gave everything our best shot, helped along by hot meals, a crackling fireplace, and each other’s encouragement. One of the biggest highlights of the retreat wasn’t just the activities—it was the opportunity to connect. Many of us made new friendships and bonded with people we wouldn’t usually hang out with at school. Whether it was staying up late chatting, playing “granny” in real life, or simply sharing a room, it brought everyone closer together. The Homestead accommodation was warm and beautifully renovated, and the fireplace was a favorite post-activity hangout to defrost. As well as the fun, we also made space for learning and growth. VCE students completed a study habits workshop, focusing on memory strategies, mindset, and effective study methods, while VM students worked on plans for the VM Café, which will launch in Term 3. On our final night, we reflected on Semester 1 and set goals for Semester 2 and beyond. It was a great moment to pause, look back on what we’ve achieved, and start thinking about what’s next. A big thank you to Rhys, Bailey and Nadia who came to visit, and an even bigger thank you to Tash, Zoe and Darcy for making the camp possible. Even though we were freezing and wet, we already miss it.
Western Victorian Careers Expo
Students from Year 10, Year 11, and the Vocational Major (VM) program attended the 2025 Western Victorian Careers Expo yesterday, held at the Wimmera Events Centre in Longerenong. As country Victoria’s largest careers expo, the event featured over 100 exhibitors, including universities, training providers, and industry representatives, offering students a comprehensive insight into a wide range of career pathways. Students interacted positively with the exhibitors and, hopefully, took away valuable information to help guide their future decisions.
Year 10 Weekly Wrap -Humanities
To finish off the term in Year 10 Humanities, we have been exploring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how it impacts our lives. We have used the declaration to explore a variety of case studies to identify whether or not human rights violations have occurred. With this knowledge, the students investigated various Australian and global protests relating to human rights and planned their own protests. The students chose to protest for a wide range of Charlton College issues. We had protests to allow Year 10 students to have spare lessons and electives, a protest to give students access to two mental health days to use a term, and another for hot chips in the canteen.

When it comes to planning your future career, there’s always more than one road to success. While university is a popular route, an apprenticeship can be a practical and rewarding path that’s perfect for certain types of learners.
Benefits of an apprenticeship:
You’ll get hands on learning from day 1
You earn while you learn
You’ll enjoy faster career progression
There’s often a clear path to employment
