Week 11 - Mr. Ryan's Report

We are here! The last week of school is upon us. Students are well and truly ready for a well deserved break. A reminder that this Friday July 4 We will be holding an end of term assembly  beginning at 2.10pm in the stadium. We invite all parents and friends to attend to celebrate the achievements for the end of the term.

Year 9

Year 9 students have spent some time experimenting with chemistry. Mr Ryan and the class had a go at the "Pharoah's Snake" experiment. Whilst the outcome wasn't quite what was expected it was still interesting to see some of the reactions take place.

English

The past week in English we have been looking at poetry. After reading different types of poems and learning about their rhyme scheme, we had a go at writing our own free verse poems. At the start of each class we spend fifteen minutes silent reading.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been learning about linear equations. We’ve been Plotting points on graphs by using the numbers in the Table of Values.

PE/Sport

In sport we have been training for our house athletics for next term. We have been practicing Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Sprints and Relays. In PE we have been playing minor games such as prisoners.

Food

Last week in food we cooked our amazing “Healthy Burgers” everyone got to choose their own ingredients and made their own burgers from scratch.

Owen, Cooper, Jordan, Mitchell, and Stella made their very own chicken schnitzel burgers, crumbing them themselves each with different add-ins. Murphy made his very own cheesy beef breakfast burger with hashbrowns on the side. Erin made a spicy cauliflower burger. We all very much enjoyed these burgers.

Health

Last week in health we started to do the topic “enhanced games”. It's a separate competition which allows the players to compete in an “enhanced” swimming competition. The video show Coach hawk teaching some ex-Olympic swimmers to beat the Olympic 50 meter world record by giving them a 1 million dollar check, only if they were on steroids and attempt to beat the 50 meter world record.

Year 8

This week the Year 8 students have been racing their Formula One cars. Monday and Tuesday saw the students make their way to the track in the SLC building and compete for the ultimate racing glory. Later this week the student's cars will be competing in the final races where we will find out how is able to make it onto the podium.

Year 7

Recently, in Year 7 English, the students were tasked with creating their own fairytale or fable as either a written short story or a comic strip. The students produced some outstanding original creations, all with a clear moral or lesson. Bailey Knighton showcased her artistic talent by beautifully illustrating her fable about a deer and a wolf, teaching the reader not to judge a book by its cover.

Year 7 students have also began finalizing their Healthy Eating Posters with some being finished late last week. Some of these can be seen below.
